    The actual "best" way to check a competitor's backlinks is actually to use SEO SpyGlass, Ahrefs.com, Open Site Explorer, and Majestic SEO. Download all the backlink data and import it into SEO SpyGlass. Then analyze all of them in SpyGlass.

    That will get you about as complete of a picture as you can get. On the other hand, buying SpyGlass along with subscriptions to Ahrefs, Site Explorer, and Majestic might be a bit too expensive for some of you.
