Hi All,

I got into affiliate marketing recently and I'm going after a niche market that has a #1 website with a PR0.

My question is, can I "overtake" a PR0 site without waiting for the next PR update?

Many thanks in advance!!!

The real PR is updates every single day. You just cannot see it.

I wouldn't base your competition on PR, but it probably is not too difficult if it is a PR 0. PR is not the only ranking factor. In fact it is a pretty minor one.

PageRank doesn't really have that much of a say when it comes to pure ranking. It is an element of the ranking formula but there are far more important things that influence it more than page rank.

What I would be more concerned about with your competition is-

    1) What is the content like? Is it the best piece of content for the query? Can it be improved on?
    2) What does the current backlink profile look like? Spend time analysing this, you might find they are #1 but are due to get hit by the penguin or you might find they have a weak link profile you can dominate.
    3) Are they well shared on social networks (tweets can influence rankings)

Delve a bit deeper into it than just PR, it is no way near as important as it once was.

Original quality content and quality backlinking is the only source to get high page rank. Keep link building on high page rank sites no matter its Blog commenting, Forum posting, Article directories what so ever...

you might want to check the number of backlinks of the site and also what other sites are ranking beside spot #1

as long as you provide quality (useful) contents to feed your readers, it should be get you more sales than just ranking.

The best way to take over a position is by targeting keywords that are possible to get 1st page position. Sometimes it takes a lot of keyword research to find but go after keywords that aren't as competitive. The next thing is write good keyword relevant content. And then build back links - as many backlinks as possible.

In search engine results page rank doesn't matter. Many times pr0 sites are shown on top for a long time. You can also achieve your site on top at search engine results. First thing is that your website have quality and unique content, build links from natural sites and niche categories. Don't build too much links for your site in short time. Always care about quality links except of low level quantity links. Create web 2.0 mini sites and take links from there.
