What is the lowest exact searches per month you would go for?

5-7 words would probably be easy to rank for.

Thanks

I think there is no definite answer to this. It depends on how niche the market is and some of my exact searches could go as low as 300 and still remains as profitable.

I don't even look at keyword tools when building my product review sites so I guess my minimum is "0".

lets shake hands! as I also never look in any keyword research tools to see how much a keyword is getting monthly search.

I do review sites so all I do is target products that others are not. I have entire sites (> 100 products) that consist of nothing but products that most "gurus" would tell you to stay away from (very little to no search volume according to most keyword tools).

Know what? I get plenty of traffic and plenty of conversions.

    I usually don't go under 5,000

It depends on the price of the product though.

If one commission brings in $100+ dollars I'd definitely be willing to take on that keyword

If you are going through city based keywords (Local SEO) then atleast 100-150 exact searches are enough.

I make an average of $800 per month and the GAKT shows just 12 searches per month using exact match. Another site earns a lot with about 46 searches a month. These are laser targeted buyer keywords mind you.

We all know that dude. But remember that these type of keywords don't become lucky for everyone. you have to understand the market what's going to be the demand of the keyword in near future.

There is no one rule fit for all. Some one can make money with 100 searches a month and some can't make it even with a 5000 searches. Its really depend upon your niche, your product, how you leverage your skills. End of the day you have to test it out. I have site with a 1200 exact monthly searches for the main keyword. The domain is keyword based and it makes more than $5 per day with adsense .

I was introduced to a "product" in the financial services niche where the referral fee can be in excess of $10,000, sometimes well in excess.

I target keywords <10 etc on that site.

However for an Amazon affiliate site, for say a group of products with an average sale price of $100 or so? About 1000 exact a month or so.

It really depends on the "product", likely difficulty in gaining a 1st place listing, there is no hard and fast rule in my eyes.

One of the biggest mistakes I made when I first got into SEO, was obsessing over search volume. This is merely a distraction from what you should be focusing on. Think about what each customer is worth to you and make your decisions based on that. Often this has little bearing on search volume.

250 searches a month might not seem like much, but if each customer is potentially worth $5,000, then I'm fine with those numbers.

I have no problem going as low as 300 searches per month, sometimes less if I have a good feeling about a keyword. My main focus is selecting keywords I know I can rank for. If you find that any one keyword has a very low search number try to add LSI keywords. That way you won't just be ranking for the one keyword.
