Starting a PPC Company

I'm 34 and have a modest knowledge of SEO/PPC I had aspirations of starting an SEO company offering SEO/Social Media/PPC/Conversion Optimization etc...

I'm starting to figure out that there is TOO much for me to learn everything. I don't think it's possible for me to learn everything I need to be successful in offering a complete SEO company. So...

I was thinking about starting a PPC only company that focused on PPC services and potentially growing from that. I have a day job so, I'm just looking to start something as a part-time thing with potential to grow into a possible all-in-one company.

My question is... do you think a PPC only company can be lucrative? and would you agree with the notion that learning everything is a bit overwhelming.

PPC can be very lucrative if you know what you're doing. And yes, learning everything at once is too overwhelming. Later, you will be able to add SEO services as an upsell, but for now concentrate on PPC if that's what you're good at.

Apply for Google Engage, and they'll send you many $100 AdWords coupons that you'll be able to give to your clients to start up

Thank you very much for the insight and the Engage tip! I needed to be reaffirmed in my thinking, you did that for me. Thank you.

I am launching my network currently, and let me tell you its hard work.

It is not purely PPC, we use PPC and CPA plus combinations of the 2, to make eCPMs.

I have 2 account managers and 1 support staff, currently I barely break even, but growth is great and soon as we move from Beta to good to go we will be happy. My accountant is not stressed so im not stressed.

The back end I chose was 3 years in development, and is not a simple script or light piece of code. Make sure you base your system on something you trust, not a script on a webhost somewhere that cant handle traffic.

My Ad network uses advanced techniques to sort out the good campaigns from the bad, it uses A/B testing if the user loads more than 1 banner, same with landing pages. It works out a score each period and slows the combos that are not working and gears up the rest. We offer Hybrid CPC/CPA campaigns allowing advertisers to get very good returns. I have 90% Publishers 10% Advertisers, yet income is split 50/50. Getting advertisers is key, and maintain a good connection with your publishers is also key.

Enough of that though, what you need to remember is this, you NEED to know what your talking about. If you go to a client and they start talking CTR, eCPM, Conversions, tracking codes etc... you need to know what they are talking about and how to communicate with them. I spent over 6 months learning the ins and outs with some very good mentors.

Please let me know what I can do to help you.

How long have you been running PPC campaigns yourself? How successful have they been?
