After several Google Penguin and Panda updates. Are Forum Profiles still effective for doing SEO? And, today, what are the best practices to rank on SERPs? I need some new ideas..

Not links from forums, all links from sites which are relevant to our sites's niche are valuable and effective.

they may consider as spamy links and they not as nearly affective as used to be but you can use it a bit for link's diversity as long as you use unique content, you should be more focus on social signals...regarding rank on serps is still very effective social bookmarks that you create manually, web 2.0 properties as well article directories but with unique content...

Forum profiles links can be golden. If the forum:

        Has decent PR.
        Gets crawled all the time.
        Is very active.
        Has a militant admin.
Has numerous threads, if not all, indexed.
And has you as an active member.

I can tell you that if a forum has a decent admin,
mods, etc., then your piddly forum profile will be
nipped in the bud if it smells of spam and you have no
posts. Good forums clean house, especially dumping
        the trash of non-active members.

Do not just go and create a whole bunch of worthless
profiles on a bunch of worthless forums.

A lot of nonsense in this thread. Why it would take google
any time to index a profile is way beyond me. If google
does not index the profile, or a thread you start, then
the forum is junk. I'd hate to be a member of a forum and
have google index stuff once a month.

Anyone who says they have built millions of forum profile links,
seriously, is completely bonkers and needs a saliva test.

If your main purpose is to create only profiles in forum sites. Then I would like to say that you are wasting your time. And if you are active and do regular post in forum sites, then its beneficial to take links from forum sites.

Thanks a lot for spending time and giving me ideas.

I just wanted to let you know that yes there still work but it is best to avoid getting these types of links in large or just getting them period when you're on page 1-4 of google....

I have send 100+ Senukex Web 2.0 profile links to my websites that were on page 1 (the websites have disappeared) and now I have to be manually removing these links and then I will have to write articles and make a broken link web or pyramid to get them ranking higher again (and I was trying to avoid doing this)...

Well all the best and remember that web 2.0 links rule.....

Forum profile links are not as effective as they once were. I've built millions of forum profile links in my day and it's sometimes hard coming to the realization that certain strategies don't work as well as they once did.

I've used them direct to site and had success in the past. Then I used them to back up social bookmarks, web 2.0's, etc. when social bookmarks were all the rage.

You should still keep forum profiles in your tool box of links to "get the job done" but you'll probably be using them less frequently as time goes on.

Don't worry. Final purpose of SEO is making of your site visibility in search results and bring you visitor traffic. Forum profile links make a little shortcut way to bring you visitor traffic also (but in case you are active member :-) ). So, anyway profile links may perform similar to SEO effect- bring you a new visitors.

Profile backlinks are also very hard to index it would usually take month's to Google index them even if you ping them the best way to index those type of links is using Baclinkbooster or Backlinkindexer they are two best tools to index any type of links...

According to me Forums are a way for people to discuss topics in public with both friends, strangers and experts. With forums it is very important to be genuine, if forum members and moderators feel that you are only trying to build links to your website., they will delete the links or even worse delete your post and all your forum link building efforts will be in vain.

I was discussing the "Forum profile" aspect in other thread of WF and members stated that forum links are not effective if you are not using those forums properly. So, you can have lots of forums profile links but you need to contribute in those forums then those links will have more value. Hope this make some sense.

Forum profiles would be effective if they are built naturally, I have seen this kind of work done automatically which won't give you any benefit.

Instead, you can go for forum posts, but it should be in relevant forums, for better result.

They aren't as powerful as they used to be. But they still can do wonders when done right. The best way to use them is make the profile, fill out all of the about me details, etc. And make a few forum posts with the account, drop a link in your signature, etc. Make it look legit.

Forum profile links only worked when done in high volumes (like 1,000s) and doing such a thing after the latest updates is like suicide.

You can use them as Tier 2 pointing to your first layer of links, but I suspect Google will be going after the pyramid structure sometime soon.

  • Random mass forum profile automation is perhaps not as effective as it once was, but it still depends on a number of factors.

If you create forum profiles with backlinks, and you actively participate in the forums, you can likely get some good internal linking which will enhance your forum profile links somewhat.

But overall, perhaps Web 2.0 profile links might be more worth your time...

From what I saw, the best way is to point your forum links to your web 2.0 profiles such as Squidoo, Hub Pages etc (where you will also have a link to your main website). That way you won't hurt your main website. But, maybe is someone here with a different opinion. If that so, i would love to see the arguments. It can helps us all.
