The basics of SEO are simple: 1) good keyword research, 2) good keyword relevant content, 3) good on page optimization, 4) LOTS of backlinks. Works like a charm every time for me.

Day by day google making SEO field very difficult via back to back updates of panda and penguin. However it is still very attractive and important field for career. There is more need to do work hard in this field in research because without research you can't achieve your goals.

After this penguin update sites with quality SEO fails to rank some time, but sites with quality content started ranking well. Only thematic natural links are valued by Google now. In future there may no opportunity for off-page SEO in my opinion.

If you know the basics but you get no success then you are doing something wrong. Either in your methods or your expectations. Try again but do something different.

The basics of SEO are simple. But if you can't rank your own site(s), then you haven't really picked it up. So, it's understandable that you're fed up.

Rank your own sites first. Then, if you want a 'career', think about taking on a trainee position in a web development or SEO company, so you have some commercial experience.

Depends who you want to work for and what you want to do with it. I went to school at a reputable University here in St. Louis and obtained my Bachelors in Internet Marketing. Of course I didn't learn everything there is to know about e-commerce and different online marketing strategies, but I did however learn the importance of Internet Marketing and how businesses will rely on it to conduct a successful business.

Everyday, more and more people are turning to the Internet to explore different marketing avenues, and that's without question their best bet if they want to succeed in this ever changing technological world of ours.

If you know what you want and have the knowledge and skills to get there, then go for it.

One post above me says all . Let me put it a bit soft.

First you try to build a website around low competition keyword (you learn keyword research)
then try to rank for those keywords (You learn SEO)
then try to monetize it (You learn affiliate marketing )

Now you should be confident enough to do SEO for others, Before that I recommend you to do the same for few other websites too. Plan your marketing , Give few free reviews on different forums, if your stuff works, they write good about you.. That is the way to go with it.

SEO is not a silly game, lot of efforts and hard work need to be put. Also you need to be updated with latest changes and be ready to adapt .

actually i am from Pakistan and some of my friends said that Google Adsense is not allowed for Pakistanis although i am not confirmed. if anyone of you can confirm this than i will thankful to you. if its really not available than please give me any other idea to monetize my site.

SEO is not an overnight lecture. It took me a year to grasp the concept ~ why I do this, why I dont do this, what is the point of this, etc....I was lucky to have someone guide me but most of the studying and research and practice , i have to do myself.

Bottomline of SEO is valuable content.

i think i'm with you zubair56. I've also started doing SEO for about a year now but still have a very low success in my website rankings. After all these updates made by Google, it seems that SEO is getting more difficult each day. But that what makes me push and become so eager to learn more.
