Google Will Now Consider DMCA Request To De-Rank Websites

Yesterday, Google announced an addition of a new signal which can de-rank websites with duplicate content (No, I am not talking about panda, its related to DMCA).

How this works?
Google has been getting requests from various copywriters(since years) to de-rank the websites that have copied their content, and rank above them. Finally, they have accepted the requests from millions of original copywriters and have included a signal that considers DMCA claims to rank a website in Google.

How this gonna affect you?
If your blog/ website has copied a content, and if the original author claims the content at DMCA, Google will consider that claim and can de-rank your website in search engine. Google has also stated that, the website will not be de-indexed but only de-ranked.

However, Google has not given any clarification on how the webmaster would be made aware when their website is claimed for copying content

This is going to be fantastic for me, there are several secondary keywords that I have that will move up once this starts to go into effect.

In fact to be honest, the last few rounds of updates from Google have only helped me rise in rank.

Actually, it wasn't just yesterday. It was last week. And there are already 3 or 4 threads about it here.

Not necessarily. This will not just automatically de-rank sites using copyrighted content. It is up to the copyright holder to file a DMCA complaint.
