I went through various WSO related to .edu and .Gov links, purchased some and also check reports but i am personally little concern.
Most links are from profile pages, some wiki (in one page just one link nothing else) etc and all look to me Spam. Am i missing something ?

I was also discussing this with some expert SEO guru, they told me they do 3 way linking for generating .edu backlink and that cost say 8 times higher than the packages we see in WF (as per this SEO experts these profile links are of no use). Can anyone suggest some proper provider or guide me how to check proper .edu or .gov links.

Thanks in advance.

Be carefull buying these services especially after the Penguin filter.

The whole idea behind forums and wikis are contributing to a community. So if the links you bought only contains profiles links and doesn't contribute to the forums and wikis, then I totally agree that it's spam. In best case they have no value, in worst they can harm your site and trust at Google.

What you can do, is start using these profiles actively and contribute to the communities.

They help, but don't spend all your money on these links. Focus more on building good content.

Find a new SEO guru, because .edu & .gov links are used as a sales tactic.

    Don't believe the hype.

May we know who that SEO guru is?

In my experience .edu, .gov and .org links work no better than any other kinds of links. Especially if they are profile links, they are equally useless as any other profile links.

Don't chase the .edu, .gov and these types of links, chase high PR links because that's what works nowadays. In-content links combined with high PR is the way to go.

I know .edu and .gov backlinks SOUND really good, but really they aren't anything special.

Don't listen to all of the fancy sale's pages that tell you otherwise.

If it is .edu or .gov with higher pagerank sure go for it but I wouldnt put too much emphasis on the fact they are .edu and .gov treat them as any other site. Most importantly you will want to know the sites authority and other factors such as the type of backlinks they have.

Only quality .gov and .edu backlinks works, so you have to decide the quality of site and the quality of pages on which you are putting your link.

The quality of the page the link is on is what is most important, as Mary pointed out. If they are selling links on a WSO or at Fiverr, that tells you all you need to know about the quality. No way they can sell a mass of good quality .edu or .gov links. They are just trash.

We both know it's a scheme but most of those people buying those crappy links have $5 burning a hole in their pocket & their reasoning for buying is, well it's only $5, $5, $5, $5, ...(never ends).

Thanks so much for great advises.

So, if i summarize then -

    1. edu .gov link from profile pages is same as normal links (may be to improve that one need to participate from those profile pages and contribute to the those forums - then it will not become spam)
    2. To check the authority of the site - now my biggest concern is when i ask provider to show me links (where they will publish) they dont share. After order placement they send the report. How i can check ?
    3. .Edu .gov is just a hype so not to focus too much on that. Good high PR relevant links value more. right ?
    4. The SEO gurus i am referring some are in this forum (will not mention name) and some long back i worked with. I am really confused. They are charging for 1 .edu back link around $20 to $25, is it really worth it ?
    5. Also can anyone advice how to check authority of links. I check OBL etc, is there any tool i can use to check. Please suggest if any.

    Thanks for the support.

As far as I know profile link building is useless because of recent updates. Whether it's come from edu and gov sites. You need to be a contributor in order to get a link from this site. Focus on building a quality content for a great result in SEO.

It doesn't make any difference what TLD the link comes from, a crappy orphan .edu link is worth the same as a crappy orphan .com link, a link from a high authority .edu page is worth the same as a high authority .com page

I still use profile/forum links and wiki links from .edu and .gov sites and haven't had a problem - but that's because like skjoldby said, I participate in the forums, blogs and wikis I use. If you've bought links, and you have the account informaiton for each, start being active, write quality posts, and as long as you do it right, the links won't get deleted, and will contribute juice, even for a small number of links.

I would suggest that if you haven't already, to give Angela's backlink packets a try. She sends a packet a month containing .edu and .gov sites with high PR, usually not less than PR6.

Follow here instructions and you won't have any problems. Here's her latest thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...low-price.html and if you look in her profile, you can find the link to her monthly packets. (this is not an affiliate link).
