Hosting server location

Hi,
Does it matter the location of the hosting server?
For example, if I have a wensite in english, but the hosting server is in Spain, and I want target users from UK, USA, Canada; is it better in search engines to use a server from these countries?
Also, the search engines check the server location, or it matters in Page Rank?

  • To be honest, it doesn't really matter. You need to be worried about latency though. If the majority of your viewers are in the US, stick with a US provider.
  • Actually, it does matter!

    You could look at it in at least 2 different ways:

    1. Host the site in Europe or USA, and set the location in Google Webmaster Tools.
    2. Host the site where the majority of traffic comes from, so if most visitors are from the UK (and you want to rank in g^^gle. co.uk), then use a UK host.

    • No, it doesn't. The TLD & region settings are used to determine the location. If you don't configure your stuff right, then the IP's will be used to determine the geographic location. The physical location has nothing to do with it, and neither does "Class C" IP's or any of that other ridiculous junk. Configure your services correctly, and you have nothing to worry about.

      This is why there are geo settings inside your analytics programs.
