I have found a keyword which I think is good for an Adsense website, but I am new to researching/building Adsense sites, so I could be wrong....

Based on the stats below from Niche Finder and Adwords Tool, is this a good keyword? If not, can you tell me why?

Niche Finder
Difficulty: 44
Global : 90500
Local: 90500
CPC: £4.40 (approx $6.90)
Results: 15800000
Avg. Links: 76

Adwords Tool
Competition: Low
Global Monthly Searches: 90,500
Local Monthly Searches: 90,500
Approximate CPC (Search): £4.40 (approx $6.90)
#adsense #good #keyword #website
  • Hi PhoenixWS,

I've never used Niche Finder so can't comment on their stats. Are those searches for exact match, phrase match or broad match? - that makes a big difference.

You don't want your Adwords competition to be too low as that would mean that there are not that many advertisers, which in turn means less ads available to show on your website and a lower CPC. Generally I go for a competition of 25 and above and if the figure is towards the lower end I only use one ad block on the page.

You can also use Spyfu.com to get an idea of CPC as well as how many ads are likely to be displayed in Google searches - 22 is the maximum that it will even show as they only drill down to the second page of search results.

    Chow chow,

Thanks for that Kevin! Stats were for exact match.

So basically you want - good search traffic, high CPC, medium/high advertiser competition and low SEO competition to achieve rankings? Is that right?

So would the example keyword generally be a no, no, due the low competition for advertisers?

      Thanks

      Rich

      • Rich,

Check to see how many ads show up on the right side when you do a Google search for your keyword phrase. If you only get 2 or 3 ads showing up then it might not be worth pursuing - ad competition too low. If you get 4 or more ad showing up then it should be ok.

Don't forget that the ads can be location targeted, so if you're looking at the USA market and want to see what ads show up then you need Google to 'think' you're doing the search from USA. Either a proxy server, free or something like Hide My Ass, or you can install 'Google Global' plugin for Firefox, that works ok as well.

As an example I did a search for Orlando Park from Google(UK) and no ads show up, if I do the same search from Google(US) I get 7 ads displaying down the right hand side.

        Does that make sense?

Thanks Kevin, this has been really useful for me. I am in the UK and it's a good tip about using Google US via a proxy.

No one can make a solid statement on the data you provided.........In order for someone to give you a good advice, he/she must know the keyword....which is not so safe :p
