I agree. Social bookmarks have there place in today's SEO landscape. I still include them. The key is diversification and also not copying the same linking strategy over and over again. You don't want google to see any patterns.

They can't cut Social Bookmarking sites out because these sites can contribute to them as well. These sites are like veins where our blood flows, they are the ones who kept social networks and activities in World Wide Web.

I think they are still valuable as part of a whole backlink strategy. I don't think that blasting your link a thousand times to social bookmarking sites may be of any help, though.

Social Bookmarking also participate in bringing the more visitors to the site. Mostly I use 10-15 for a site and it helps.
You need to maintain a ratio and keep bookmarked on daily basis but on different bookmarking sites.

I personally think that tells us it's fine to use trusted social bookmarking sites like delicious.com or reddit.com which is what I've been doing since the penguin update. At the end of the day it sounds like their trying to kill off the outsourced to india link building that has been going on for so long. Basically you need to only put your links on sites that generate genuine traffic.

Now I think it's safe to say you may still see results from some sites that seem to be low quality but I think it's safe to say those days are numbered. The future of SEO seems to be inbound marketing.

They still work. I have been using the top sites. One thing is they are not that effective as they were before.

For ranking , perhaps for inner pages, spinning/submitting this content could still enjoy a limited lifespan, but personally I'd consider more sustainable methods.

It hardly works now. Most of the bookmarking sites are spammed by a big number of spammers who are always looking for backlinks. Yet some high PR social bookmarking sites like stumbleupon, digg, delicious can help you. But do not it in builk. 10 per day will be more than enough. Avoid using sites less than PR 4.

Social bookmarks will always be valuable, I personally use them for indexing purposes, but they're great for diversity too, not to mention they bring in some visitors as well!

You need to make sure not to repeat the same anchored keyword again and again because Google can take them unnatural linking by some kind of software. The title of the article is used to link to your website so if you are bookmarking an article, you should make 5-6 titles with slight change accroding to the article and then post it on all the good ranked social bookmarking sites...

I run a lot of tests. I have a single testsite that I've only sent social bookmarks to and it has had zero effect on its SERP ranking. This is opposed to sister sites that have similar onsite structure and target the same keywords, and are ranking first page using effective techniques.

Now that isn't to say that social bookmarks don't have their place.

- They're considered a social signal. You're not going to stay on first page for long if your site has tons of backlinks and no social signals. Its a form of legitimacy in Google's eyes. Any site with x amount of backlinks should also have y amount of bookmarks.

- They're great for anchor text diversity. Send your branded, misc and long sentance anchors using social bookmarks. Save your critical keyword rich bookmarks for your high PR/PA/DA homepage contextual backlinks from your PBN or rented links.

- They're excellent for referral traffic. Use captivating titles. For example, if you're an affiliate for weight loss products, use something like "After trying for 12 years, I finally have a six pack. This program is a game changer"

The best way to improve rankings is use diversified anchors and diversified platforms.We use like only 5-10% anchors for our clients and we are getting good results

I would rather more count on social media sources as hot traffic channels than places to get links because many times the links on such networks disappear from the net arena after a while, but the traffic aspects and potentials could be very strong indeed. Although social networks can be connected to SEO indirectly, a better approach would be trying to improve your web traffic volume through having your web name appear and mention on such hubs a lot, bringing visitors to your web portal.
