A really complicating situation regarding Blogger transfer to Wordpress. Could somebody help me?

Hi.

I apologize in advance for this really complex question.
If anybody could help me, I would really appreciate it. I am feeling a little lost.

-----

I have 2 websites in the same niche. Both are doing great. The first one I started a few months back and is now getting about 500-600 visitors daily.
This is a Blogger blog with a custom domain.

Due to the success of this website, I decided to create another site. This time, hosted on HostGator with a custom domain, and using Wordpress.

The Blogger site is still doing much better. It is generating about $300/month. I want to sell this site, but as you may know it is not allowed to sell Blogger sites since I do not own them.

Therefore, I had the idea of transferring over the Blogger blog to my Wordpress site and then selling that one later on. However, I do not know how to do so.
There are a bunch of guides on transferring Blogger to Wordpress. Could I just follow these steps and redirect all of my 200+ posts to my Wordpress site? It is confusing because all the guides are about transferring the blog to a new, fresh Wordpress site. In my case, I will be transferring the content to an existing site with 50+ posts already.

I am so lost here. I have no clue what to do.
If anybody is experienced with this could you advise me on what to do?

Thank you.

I'm not completely sure how you go about doing this, but I remember somebody saying to just use import blog feature or something. At the very least my comment will put this thread back at the top and maybe some one else can help. Good luck.

      Haha thx Nest.

Yes, it seems every guide on Google says to use the import function on Wordpress.

Could anyone tell me... if I import the blog to wordpress, what next?
Many of my posts are on page 1 of google and several of my individual posts are getting 90% of my overall traffic.

The two domains are different from one another. (the guides out there are about transferring just the hosting and setting up the urls so that they are the exact same as one another. I can't do that if the domains are different.)

I would not do the the blogger transfer to Wordpress, then have to rank the WP for all the old keywords (again).

Build a new WP site targeting the old keywords exactly like you did with blogger, only use unique content on the WP pages. Then use the blogger pages that are already ranked to help rank the new WP site.

You can't do a true 301 redirect from each blogger page to the new WP pages. The only redirect you can do on blogger is a meta redirect which isn't going to do anything as far as SEO goes, meta redirect is for traffic.

      Thanks Yukon.

That is pretty much what I did. The new Wordpress site I have is targeting the same keywords as the Blogger blog. But the Blogger blog is still doing better.

Because I want to sell the site, but Blogger is unsellable, I wanted to transfer the Blogger site to the new Wordpress site. So that all the traffic would be redirected to the new Wordpress site.

So you're saying that redirects to the new Wordpress blog will not be possible. But I can help it out by linking to the posts of the Wordpress site, instead?

Yes, impossible to do a 301 redirect from Blogger > Wordpress, you don't have access to the blogger server.

If you've kept track of all the backlinks pointing at the Blogger sites/pages you could go back & add new links to the WP site/pages, also use the ranking blogspot to help rank the WP.

I'm actually glad you brought up this issue, I always thought I could transfer a blogger blog to wordpress and keep my rankings from the old blogspot version, I didn't know I would have to start all over again.

Just keep it, if it earns 300 a month that's great. Than in future use wordpress for your sites, something I still haven't gotten around to doing.

Hey nest28, I just found an article that tells you step-by-step how to do the blogger to WP transfer. Facebook me (not enough posts to paste an image or to PM) so I can provide the link.

    My 2 cents on this.

Since you're making $300/month and you don't want to jeopardise earnings, I'd get on Craigslist or elance, etc and find somebody who has done this before. There are a tonne of little things that can go wrong - trust me. You want to find somebody who has done it before. My bet is it will be $100-$200 depending on how complex your site is. Make sure whoever does it though has done it before, not just THINK they have done it before.

I figured it... and posted the steps taken here:

    @Joey
Are you talking about this article?
How to Switch from Blogger to WordPress Without Losing Google PageRank or Search Traffic

This seems to be the most detailed guide out there for doing this and I tried it. The problem was that every post was redirecting to my new wordpress homepage and not the corresponding posts that were imported.
