Ok, I have a keyword with 90,000 EXACT searches a month. ( Diet Niche )
Ranking #6 for that keyword.

The first 2 listings are EXACT match domains with hyphens in between them - Domain age - 7 years
The next 2 listings are from WEBMD & WIKIPEDIA
The next is everydiet.com
Then comes mine.

My domain is 6 months old.
Whatever i do i don't move beyond this point. Not an inch.
So, this is achievable or should i have to wait till i get old ?

What would you suggest to get it to the top atleast #3?

slow and steady man - don't try and "push" anything at this point - #6 for a 90,000 exact keyword is nothing to sneeze at and if you get too agressive you're just gonna wind up blowing it all to bits.

Just keep finding good quality links and keep everything looking natural and you'll get there.

But I guess the other question is - how much traffic are you receiving at #6 and how well is it converting?

    # 6 is a good spot in the diet niche for a newer site.

Just keep building links steadily over time. Also, keep adding pages to your site. If you site keeps growing and attracting more links, you'll get there eventually.

Firstly..its good that you are on page 1 for highly competitive niche like diet ..
Now if u wish to get to the top 3 ..u'll have to be patient and focus on building some high premium quality backlinks else if u spam your site with numerous backlinks in a hurry to reach top rankings..u might end finding yourself somewhere at the end of rankings...
SEO is a slow & gradual process which takes time to get desired results based on your niche competition..
You have two option ..either keep building high quality links in a natural manner & wait n wait till your get to the top..other option is to go scouting for high premium backlinks in your niche in a discrete manner & u can hope to get to the top in 2-3 months....u can also hire some link building agency that offer high quality premium backlinks in a discrete manner..

    cheers!

I would look closely at the content and on-page SEO for those sites. Try to emulate in your own way and back up with some strong social signals. I would not build too much exact match anchor links but instead, get a few high PR links and silo some additional content under your landing page.

Let your domain mature a bit more as well, at 6 months you are still carrying a bit of a penalty. I have one sitting at about that point at the moment, walk away from it as crazy as that sounds. Let your current strategy settle, gain some maturity and odds are you will even increase in position on its own.

Just keep adding great content to the site and building links naturally. Perhaps you can start a podcast or a show to get more social links. If you don't want to do that then I'd suggest using a tool like SocialAdr to get more social links to your site...Google loves them :-)

From what you said, it looks like you stand a fair chance of hitting #5 spot.

    And you have several options:

    - analyze your spot 5 competitor and see what it is you're missing to outrank them. By the way, I barely see a dozen domains linking to them... hmm.

    - wait for EMDs to stop playing the insane role they're playing right now (but who knows when that will happen).

    Best of luck (seriously)

I really don't see you beating out WebMD with 'self-placed' links. Their domain authority is very high for health related keywords.

Make sure you're really in spot #6 and that you're not seeing personalized results (if you're checking your ranking by doing a Google search).

If I was in your place, I would build a few links consistently over a period of many days, preferably using different link types like press releases, software directory links, blog comments (a few high pr links) etc. I wouldn't build any mass links directly to the money site but maybe to tier 1 or tier 2 sites.

Also, since the site is already on page 1 and hopefully receiving some traffic, I wouldn't try too much in getting its position up. Instead of that, focus maybe on getting the site rankings up for some other keywords while at the same time dedicate a tiny amount of time or money to slowly build links targeting the original keyword.

However, that is just my way of doing it. It might not be the best or most effective.

    Hello dears

I have a doubt with SILO structure

When I link a post with a SILO/CATEGORY, this post is what has been published more recently or is the oldest I've posted?

    Thank for replies

We've outranked Wikipedia before, just because they're #1 or #2 for a specific phrase doesn't mean you can't outrank them. Start slow and increase link velocity each month, if you start hammering your site with links it may get red-flagged and slapped, so increase it steadily and consistently until you kick Wikipedia's ass

Add social signals into the mix. Give Synnd a try. I'd also create a Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and Google + page for the site and add fresh content daily. Make everything as NATURAL as possible. Do some relevant, quality blog commenting and guest blogging. You can manually search for sites to guest blog on or you can join a site like MyBlogGuest.com.

Also, don't focus all of your energy on this one keyphrase. Build your site out. Add more long-tail keyword based posts to bring in additional traffic. Make your site a true authority site and then you can compete with the big boys like WebMD.
