One of my campaigns has been denied yet again.

Guess why?

The image of your ad violates our Ad guidelines. Please note that we don't allow images that promote an ideal body/physical image for health related products.
My ad was denied because I used a picture of a girl in a bikini to promote a weight loss product.

What do they expect me to use then, a horse on a treadmill?

Actually, that would probably be an excellent idea....if you could get it approved.

I had an ad denied because they said the picture did not accurately represent the product. The picture was a dude on a surf board riding a wave. The product was a series of video lessons from a pro surf boarder giving out tips on how to be a better surfer.

Don't stop at a horse. Try fatter animals.

    Pigs
    Cows
    Hogs
    Rhinos
    Hippos

Plus, people who approve Facebook ads have always been inconsistent.

Those who handle Facebook ads are probably careful people and don't want any kind of misrepresentation in their ads. What they're telling you is that they want you to advertise the product itself and not the promise. I know its odd but I think it's just simply their way of being careful.

Facebook ads never worked for me anyways, I've tried optimizing them, various images etc. They just never seemed to pay off for me.

I'm done with advertising on FB.

Had high converting rate but also very high advertisement costs.

Paul beat me. Everyone uses the same 'attractive girl' photos. Do something unusual.
If you target the younger crowd and perhaps the more 'nerdy' type, you could likely get a good response out of using a "meme" style ad as well.
    Goodluck!

Exactly, why would you want to use a picture of a girl in a bikini, it attracts people for all the wrong reasons and well they'll then look at your product and think.. errrr not really what i was after?! You'll end up getting a very low CTR.

My ad wasn't just some girl in a bikini - that would be too generic.

Needless to say, the was a girl in the ad, with her abs showing. The product I'm promoting heavily emphasizes "belly fat loss" as one of it's biggest selling points.

But again, the ad wasn't simple of a girl bearing her abs. There was a lot more going on, but Facebook still didn't like the fact I'm advertising that type of body.

Was the girl a model? Did it look amature or professional? I wonder if that matters. Maybe try an amatuer model.

It was a crop of a magazine cover.

          So pretty professional.

Did you have the appropriate rights to be using that image in the first place?

              I did not, actually.

It was just a very small 120x70 crop from a full-size magazine cover; you really can't tell where it's from.

Still, you're right. I should've been using stock photos I have the rights to; like I do for my blog images.

That wasn't the reason why it was denied though - I'm ranting because Facebook told me portraying an "ideal" body type isn't allowed.

Yeah, I got my ad approved.

But I had to use a different picture. They just didn't like the fact that my original one showed too much skin.

Try renaming your image same as the name of the product that you are promoting. I tried it before and my ad got approved using the same image that I've downloaded from Google images. I guess they don't like the long no meaning image file name like "iojdkncgdjd.jpg" but it's not a guarantee though.

I don't also advise you to download images from Google

Thanks for that bit of info - I've been experimenting with FB ads for a while and sometimes there are real inconsistencies between what they do and don't approve. I've just had pics of girls in bikinis approved - admittedly for a client selling swimwear so very relevant, although some weren't approved and I think the ones that were are more revealing than the ones that weren't. Go figure!

Based on what I understand from fb ad, a girl in bikini may be offensive to say fatter people... or you are selling a result/promise that you wont be able to prove in the ad itself.

What I mean is people who sees you ad may think that if they get your product they will get a swim suit body which may not be the case.

I use pretty generic ad images on Facebook. Things like arrows pointing at the ads, or checkmarks. Always a simple shape but a bright color. Works for me.

You have to attract others and for that use images that really catches the eyes of the audience. But the picture should relate to what you are providing.
