A good sales per lead ratio?

So over the last few days I have been building a niche list its up to 27 subs right now. I have been using adwords to build this tiny list and spent around $50.

However I have no sales yet. I was hoping for 1 sale per 10 leads or at least 1 per 20 leads.

Was this an unrealistic expectation? Because without at least a 1:20 sales to lead ratio I won't be able to make any money. Along the same lines what kind of sale per lead ration do you guys usually get?

Thanks

P.S - My bribe for the list is a 5 video mini series, and I'm promoting a full video course (over 100 videos) as an affiliate.

Sales per lead varies dramatically depending on the niche and the quality of your sales copy. In some niches with the right copy, a ratio of 20:1 is completely plausible. In others, you're looking at 10x that. (In my experience most niches can only convert highly-targeted traffic at around 10%., but again, there are so many factors that influence this and many niches can probably see better conversion rates.)

You'll likely need to spend a fair chunk of cash to break even and then begin making profits. It can take a long time to achieve good AdWords quality scores & lower your bid prices, but the longer you stay with it the more your campaign will improve and your ad costs will decrease. Combine that with some good A/B split testing to improve your opt-in offer, sales copy, etc and you'll see the sales:lead ratio improve.

    Good luck!

Well I guess I will give an update. First the good news I was able to get my CPL down to about $0.70 and my optin conversion to 30%. Now the bad news, I have 50 people on my list now, however I still do not have any sales.

But to be honest I haven't been pitching them too hard, just a little bit of a pitch at the end of my videos and some sales copy at the bottom of the videos. I think because of that my follow up emails have high open rates (50% +) so I decided for the 6th follow up email I will send them a big pitch. Hopefully that will get me some sales. If anyone is interested I can keep updating this post with my progress.

I think you are to eager to milk the campaign for sales at the moment.

What I would do first is focus on increasing conversion and signups on the front end. Spend a few hundered to test a few things and then work on optimising the back end process.

You might lose money at first but after a while you will have a finely tuned money making engine.
