Expired Domains and Page rank

Hey guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I just started a new HVAC business and I have a great website, rich with the most common keywords for me field... now I need people to see my site.

I am interested in buying a few domains at godaddy auctions, that have higher page rankings ( 3-6 ) and doing a 301 into my main business site. I know how to check if the site is real by going to google and searching info:domain and making sure the info matches. And checking pagerank is easy....

But i noticed alot of domains with pr of 3-5 that check out as legit.... but when I search link: domain on google.... they show no links.

How can that be with a pr 3-5 site... is this a red flag to stay away?

If the page rank is not fake then it could be due to the content of the site. Since you are just buying the domain and not the site then it is likely the PR will disappear at the next update. Stick to sites with a decent backlink profile, that way there is more chance these links will remain and the PR will stay the same the next update.

The link command in Google is highly unreliable. It barely shows any links. You need to use something better to inspect the backlinks. SpyGlass is my personal choice for this because not only does it pull backlinks from multiple databases, but it also inspects the sites to see if the links still exist today.

SEOmoz, Ahrefs, MajesticSEO, etc., only update their link information periodically (usually every 2-4 months).

Also, I would be careful about doing too many redirects. Google will catch on.

Spyke you need to slow down and learn some more about buying domains, redirects and how to check backlinks. If you don't then you are going to lose a ton load of cash

Redirects of aged domains will only help you rank for your keywords if the aged domains you are buying have links for your keywords or similar. backlinks must be checked through SEO spyglass or other good backlink checkers

and as Mike has pointed out 301 redirects are not what you use as your link building technique. You can do it here and there but too many and Google will penalize the site
