Am I doing it right? (My SEO)

Hi there!

I'm making a website on WebPlus about Hedgehogs (the link to it is in my signature). I have tried to do a bit of SEO but I am very new to it. I want to rank for the following terms:

African Pygmy Hedgehog
Pet Hedgehog
Hedgehogs for Sale
What do Hedgehogs Eat?

I would be so grateful if someone would take a few minutes to skim through the site and see if what I'm doing is right and if there's any majors problems or obvious things I'm missing?

Thank you so much!

You're creating pages, which is fine, but consider setting up a blog. Google loves posts as opposed to pages.

On your accomodation page, "When thinking about African Pygmy Hedgehog Accommodation" is bolded. Try just bolding "African Pygmy Hedgehog Accommodation" instead - it's less keywords.

Stick your keyword in H1 too.

Your keywords will presumeably be hard to rank for, especially ones like "what do hedgehogs eat" and "hedgehogs for sale". Most definitely "pet hedgehog".

I think you're probably going to out of your depths for a first site.

That's all. Oh, and you look pretty hot. Good luck!

Warning, I am not an SEO Expert.. I am a SEO Newbie

I use pages on my site and have no problems but I also don't use wordpress so who knows. Your content seems a bit shy but that could be just because it is small print, I normally aim for 500-700 words when doing pages. It is okay to have some that don't have that but for the most part that is my goal. Also, allow for comments and moderate them. This allows pages to be updated, gets your site indexed regularly I have found. Also can be used to cause conversation on keywords but can also create secondary keywords you never thought of when creating the page.

    Newbie mode off

Try to rank the site first, build traffic, and promote through social channels.

Once there's some real user interest in the site then you should look to monetize. There's too many ads on the site right now. Focus on content quality and user experience first, monetize later.

I would remove your keywords, and your site in your signature unless you're welcoming more competition.

your sites cute looking, i like it. It lacks backlinks for sure. Do you add daily content to your site? if not how much during the week roughly? If you are building backlinks do simple things like guest posting article to related sites like your own or if you have the money hired someone to build the links for you. It's whatever flows your boat really.

Focus on authority links like .edu, .gov, pr9, and guest posts links to get more traffic and ranking changes. You still have a long way to go but that's the basics and you can always mix a bit of web 2.0 content links in the mix as well.

You could also try a few more obscure search terms that are easier to rank for initially.

I've had site that have taken months to get any traffic and a lot of work becuase they were targeting competitive phrases. On the other had 4 or 5 very longtail terms can and do get tarffic from the start

Believe me it's more fun working on a site that has traffic already than one thats a graveyard.

It looks good. Do some on page optimization. H1 tags and meta tags. I agree that you need a blog to promote and create fresh articles every week.
