How to lower our bounce rate?

Hi,
I welcome ANY ideas, as this is highly needed.

Our website, www.GodeKarakterer.dk, has a very high bounce rate. People stay ~2 min pr visit, and most of our articles range from 3-5 minutes in average. But still, our bounce rate is in the 80'ies.

We need to lower it - a lot.

Examples of two typical pages:
Trekant – areal af trekant og forklaring

Differentialregning – find forskriften for tangenten

Do you have ANY ideas how to make people click more?
#bounce #lower #rate

Probably just your subject matter. People are coming to your site looking for very specific information, and when they find it, they bounce.

You need to add something to the page that encourages readers to take the next step.

After each lesson, instead of having a link 'back to mathematics education' have a 'next lesson: next lesson title here' link instead.

Add some interactivity such as a skills test after each lesson, and add a progress tracking feature to your site for each skills test completed. Like a progress bar: 18/100 tests completed. Then have an average score across all tests.

This will add an opportunity to click to another page that rewards the reader while also reducing your bounce rate.

I agree, your looks to have great content that gives the visitor what they want so they don't hang out and move on. Some kind of graphic that has a call to action (like click here to read more) to go to another interesting page within the site will be great at the bottom of your articles. Another thing I have seen others have great success in is to add an image of a video that looks like it will play on the page, but it actually takes the visitor to another page that the video resides on. It's best to do this at the end of the article and add a note like "Click here to check out this video on _____" and be sure the video is relevant to the subject at hand so it doesn't upset the visitor.

Those are more legit means, here is a less then legit way....

have a little iframe window that calls a script, lets say an image of a coin and under it... say like.. The last reader calls Heads. Then a button labeled "Flip Coin".
Now in this script thats called in the iframe window put your analytic code.

Also put this near the top so the reader can see it without scrolling down.

    Make it more focused.

There are a lot of shiny things.

Also maybe cut down on all the different styles of post layouts?

are yout search terms matching well with your content? Your average is probably being bought down by lots of very quick bounces made by users who have no use information on the site. It may well be worth re-analysing exactly what your readers want and re-optimise accordingly.

Browsed your site...it is simple but it should look more professional.Make your site more attractive by adding some worth into it.
Bounce rate increases when visitors don't find your site much informative or attractive and leaves from the very first page.make the content more interesting using some infographics. It will surely help.

    Really nice looking site congratualtions.

Personally I would attack the boucne rate issue by introducing some sort of e-mail sign up process. This would help reduce bounce rate as it moves people over to another page but also give you a nice list of people to market to in the future.

I'm not sure I'd use a full width layout, I'd at least centralise the content...

Thanks a lot for all the answers. That means a lot to us :-) !

    Saganator:
Really good ideas! Unfortunately a bit hard to implement as it is Wordpress..We will definetely start to link to some relevant "next lesson".

    Kiliki:
Not a bad idea.. Definetely not a bad idea. We would maybe do the same with our calculators :-) Thanks!

    Risingrank:
We have quite a lot videos and pictures in a lot of our articles :-) And they are really useful, also.

    Nelapsi:
Haha, yeah ok, that's quite interesting ;-) Any results with that?

    Greedy:
Good idea! I will talk to my partner about that!

    Fadango123:
Yeah, we rank really well on a lot of school terms.. But of course, please are searching for something like "how to solve a fraction", and we answer that.

    Aadi144:
I really agree, even though I can't point at what exactly is wrong. We will use some money on some designer to get a retouch Thanks!

    MatthewWoodward:
Thanks :-) Probably not a bad idea... Or at least some other thing (clear signup thing to go to another page which describes our homework things..) yeah, good idea.

    JoeUK:
    We will look at it.

    Farabi:
How would you make more internal links? We do that quite a lot already.

We have 1000+ url's with content, so we have a lot of content.. ALso a lot of images and videos :-)

You have to segment visitor to analyze their behavior.

For your website is the content website.
Segment only new visitor and see how many your bounce rate?
If is still high , deep down to see which traffic source that have problem.

See which contents, which keyword have a high bounce rate, may be you can not solve what they want.

For return visitor, high bounce rate for content website is normally high because they will find only new content , if you are not update , they will be gone.

Dude seriously, you could lower your bounce rate by simply switching to another theme, or squeeze page with video that compels people to stop and watch. Right now it is very buzy and chaotic, makes my eyes hurt and immediately makes me want to hit the exit box on my browser window.

In order to have bounce rate lower, you must check the following:

    1. you get targeted visitors to your services: people who are indeed interested in the subject(s) in matter, not just "any people" kicking in to your site
    2. evidentiate your content: what is your site about? (make sure people clearly understand what it's about)
    3. stimulate people to navigate across pages: nice images, optimized titles
    4. update content periodically - if they return and keep seeing the same thing, the bounce rate will increase, as they'll bounce off
    5. make sure it runs well in all major browsers - some people bounce of due to errors/coding issues
    6. make sure the site loads fast
    7. try splitting some of your "thick" content into multiple pages, so that people feel stimulated to check multiple pages out instead of one "huge chunk"

This might or might not be your case, but I hope at least some of these points can help you!

    • Provide clear calls to action. Write specific and targeted content that is geared towards your audience. Consider using different keywords that are more relevant to your content. Your site's purpose should be expressed clearly in its content and design. Remove any elements that are not necessary, including graphics, widgets, banners, pop-up ads, etc.

    Solution is simple..

Offer unique, quality and interesting content based on the taste of your visitors, Then they will stay long time in your website,

Make sure to offer unique content , so that it will attract your visitors. If you offer the same content as the same as your competitor then definitely you lose the quality and interest of your visitors. Then your visitor simply skip your website...

I have checked your website. I have found it is not at all impressed.

To minimize bounce rate you have work on the following:

    Improve your website design
    Create landing pages
    Write quality and relevant content

If your website is not very informative, and can't satisfy to your visitor's need then you will have high bounce rate.

Make sure the key phrases you are using to drive traffic to your site serve the need of you visitors. If the landing pages don't provide the information relevant to your keywords then your bounce rate will be high.

So please fix these drawbacks in order to minimize your bounce rate.

There should not be any third party widgets and contents as this will take your site to load slowly. The contents in the site should be readable and the contrast of the site should be in good contrast. As the mobile users have increased rapidly the size resolution should suit even mobile only then they can read the content on your site.navigation to other pages should be convieniet .If not the user will leave the site in lesser time. so see to that there is good navigation through
    all the pages.
