How hard are these keywords to rank

I try to stick with keywords that have 8,100 searches a month, the lowest I'll go is 5,400. Now I have been able to find these pretty fast but I come across keywords that I'm not sure how fast I can rank,or if I can rank at all.

Since the forum has been over run with spam lately I'm trying to make few threads that we can all learn from, so I'm posting keywords that I would go after and some that may scare me off.

It would be nice to get all of your opinions on these keywords as well.
I use Google keyword tool, seo quake extension and free version of traffic travis.

Seo quake for chrome shows the wrong number of links for organic listings so I double check using traffic travis and sometimes I'll triple check using majesticseo.com. I also like to use Google keyword tool to see the trends of these keywords, no use going after a keyword that doesn't get constant traffic all year long. Although seasonal sites can make money also.

"silver shoes" 8,100

what worries me about this is shop style.com and silver sneakers.com
silver sneakers.com has 58,000 backlinks but they don't seem to be optimized for the keyword.

Shopstyle.com is optimized for it and has 2,400 links but they both are in near bottom positions.

I personally would pass, because I want to rank easy, I'm paranoid so I need easy keywords.

"penny loafers" 8,100

the penny loafers.com and Wikipedia take the 2nd and 3rd spots. They both have a lil over 1,000 links other than that I would go for this. Plus these shoes cost a pretty penny as well which is good for amazon affiliate. Hey did anybody see what I just did there, with the pretty penny line, because I'm talking about penny loafers? aahh what you know about funny anyways.

Btw I would pass. It doesn't seem to hard but I just prefer something that I can see myself being number 1 for.

"pink shoes" 4,400
Easy but it's under my minimum search requirement, also shopstyle.com worries me just lil bit, but since all other listing have little to no links I would say this is overall easy.
I also don't like making sites like pink shoes .net.

"memory foam mattress reviews" 5,400
Only reason I listed this is to show what I never go after, first page filled with emd. I rather my competition be big store than other marketers. Also tough to rank.

"upholstery foam" 4,400
Another example of what I would not go after, to many local listings, didn't even check for competition.

"zebra bedding" 6,600
nextag.com ,beyond bedding.com, and home-decorating-co.com worries me, other than that it seems like a ok keyword.

"king size bedding" 2,400
Beddingsuperstore.com are interiordec.about.com are the only ones with links other than that seems ok, just lower than what I would go for. Top ten bunch of 0s and 1s.

"hair dryer holder" 1,600
Easy-nextag has 186 links, other than that nothing to worry about. I don't go after low search volume but if I did I would go for this.

Sorry people I really wanted to find a good keyword that fit my search criteria but had no luck. You see I have found a niche where I can find easy keywords with high search but I couldn't list those without giving away my own personal niche.

Stay away from keywords that have service or supplies in it, most likely local listing will take up the top positions meaning you'll need to be number to see traffic.

Also stay away from niches where all you see is exact match domains on the first page, go after keywords where your only competition is big companies.

Good post, I'm also trying to get some REAL information instead of a bunch of people trying to sell me their e-books lol.

Question: How would you go about moentizing a site where you're trying to rank for "king size bedding"?

Amazon- Make a site that look like this Bedding Sets, Bed Duvet Covers, Bed Sheets & Bed Pillows | Pottery Barn look for template that have a gallery theme or movie templates, and replace the movie thumbnails with product images.

Something like this might do for certain items http://wpsam.com/freewordpressthemes/demo/boxoffice/

Defiantly don't like the header on this one but it's perfect. http://flippa.com/auctions/2803085/site the whole top area is horrible but the part below with the thumbnails would be perfect for certain amazon products like bedding.

        Hi Nest,

I have really liked your threads in the past. This one though I disagree with. If I see alot of emd or even one or two, I know that I can get my site on the 1st page.

        For example:

Granite Countertop prices Exact searches 1000 cpc = 4.42

The top ten for this is very weak. I see a partial emd at number 8 and a askiville site at number 1. I can get my site to number 3 or higher and make about 125$ a month. With writing excellent content and some high pr backlinks I would rank easily.

I find it much harder to find keywords in your range of searches that require little backlinking. But everyone has their own methods.

I do agree with you that this forum has become spammed alot more and very little value has been provided lately.

One would have thought EMD sites with thin content would have been gone with the Google animals on the prowl. I guess they are yet to go away maybe with another animal.

I defiantly wouldn't want to be in direct competition with Yukon or Mike, but as far as the keywords above are concerned there are plenty more where they came from, and much easier to rank. I find keywords manually , so anyone who has long tail pro or micro niche finder should be just fine.

I don't think having a emd is bad, it's just the fact most IMer's that use emds spam their way to the top. Which is a tactic which wont work much longer.

[hair dryer holder] should be a very easy keyword If you target the thumbnail images in Google organic SERPs, that's 5 separate links at the top of the SERPs for that exact keyword.

Grab 5 [hair dryer holder] images off Amazon, add them to 5 individual pages & rank the images.

You can target the #1 SERP position at the same time as ranking the Google thumbnail images. Images are usually pretty easy to rank, rank the images now, work on ranking the SERP text link long-term.

Everyday you impress me , I would never have thought of doing that and it's right there in my face. How do you rank images?

It's not a matter of not being able to rank because of other emd/marketers I just don't like to share the page with them lol. Plus if I see a bunch of emds it lets me know that the keyword is probably popular among marketers which is a bad thing.

I started finding easy keywords with good monthly search volume once I stop using keyword software.

I actually have no experience in ranking sites on first page, in the past I relied on long tail phrases, so I'm glad you made this post, it gives me a idea of how much can be made.

There's a few different ways to rank images in Google SERPs, I don't have time right now to go into detail, here's a few tips.
        • Keywords surrounding image
        • Keyword in image Alt-text & image name
        • Links to image
        • Keyword surrounding text around image hyperlink
        • Keyword in page title that the image is on

Lol, overstock[dot]com [king size bedding] is using a sneaky trick I've talked about here on WF, ranking images served by Flash as video thumbnail images in Google SERPs, Granted their video thumbnails are at the bottom of the 2nd page, but If they wanted to rank them on first page, they'll rank just like a Youtube video in Google SERPs.

Those thumbnails below are not videos, but they are indexed as videos. That's a Flash movie player pulling jpg images from a remote file/folder.

This is a little more advanced, but once the Flash player & remote file/folder are setup, it gets easier.

i like it when I see all the EMD's on page 2. This means you can bump past them and they dont pollute the first page

I am pretty new to WF so I am sure this is a dumb question. Let's say you have a phrase or a few keywords you want to target. How can you quantify site-wide how you are doing other than obviously doing a search for them?

Other than optimizing the site, writing articles on the topic you are trying to rank and getting backlinks from blogs or sites with similar content, is there anything else I should be doing?
