My First Landing Page

Ok, I'm looking for extreme criticism. I can take it, so let me have it. All I want is to improve

I have finished my first decent landing page. I have a load of questions, and I'm sure these are loaded beyond belief, but I gotta start somewhere:

Landing Page: promo.binarywinners.com/free-offer

Questions:

1. Is this landing page horrible? Great? Somewhere between?

2. How do I know? (testing I suppose?!)

3. Any suggestions to make it better out of the gate (before testing)

4. How do I start testing?

5. Where do I start testing? (where do I buy traffic?)

6. What does my budget need to be?

7. What metrics should I measure for the test and where should I get the values?

8. What tools, if any, should I have in my arsenal to help make my job easier from here on out?

PHEW, that's enough for now. Thank you so much in advance for any help. I'm a total newbie and cannot wait to learn from you pro's.

Hi KidRobot, Your landing page shows you have 5,000 Likes. Yeah, right!

You apparently believe it's OK in marketing to use deliberate deception, and you want us to help you?

Um, let me think about that - for a split second.

    No thanks. I'm outa here.

Hi Allan, the LIKES you see there are indeed real for our site (ProfitBinary.com). I figure since the service we are giving is our profitbinary trade alerts, it's OK to "hype" the facebook likes we have there? We have like 14,500 members and just over 5k "likes".

Page is OK - which is a landing page you were given as an affiliate right? I've seen lots of these binary trading pages around. I hope you realize that these binary option companies are all scams right? Just food for thought, you don't need to believe me but you can google it and find out for yourself! It's actually quite a big, and growing problem.

There is ONE reputable binary options company. They are regulated by the CFTC and based in Chicago. www dot nadex dot com

Thx for the feedback. I am an affiliate, yea, but we created this landing page on our own. Most of our traffic is overseas, and we typically market forex services, but saw there was a great demand from our members on Binary Options. I tend to agree with you, it's hard to make money with binary, but our trade alerts are consistently profitable thus far. I hope we don't run into any "scam" situations, trust me. We do work with Nadex.

Personally this is all a little but grey, as you've already admitted the number of likes from facebook has been enhanced, so all your trust is immediately gone.

Next up is the area you're working in, again a grey area where the law is unclear about what is legal.

Lastly the pop-up box with the live agent, called Billy, I think he got annoyed when I asked for the $100 you promised. Perhaps you need to think about working in an area which is more above the law?

AndrewStark, thx for feedback. Couple things:

      1. Facebook likes are not enhanced at all, what do you mean by that?

      2. Regarding the live-chat widget thingy ... you think we should remove it entirely? the idea was that they could offer live-support to increase conversions but if it only hurts and is annoying, that's no good.

      3. About the legality and "product", this is something I can't control as it's for our client and my only job is to get them as many leads/conversions as possible. That's how i get paid, so I want to do the best I can. I can't change their product or anything like that.

I'm looking at it on a 22" monitor and the opt in form is above the fold, however I bet it isn't for most people.

There is far to much junk to distract the person from the action you want to take.

    You just want -

    HEADLINE (1 line)
    VIDEO (left align auto play)
    OPTIN FORM (right align)

then leave everything underneath as it is.

When you create the 2nd version of the page be sure to setup a split test to measure the effectivness of your changes.

Matthew, beautiful, thanks for that. I will do exactly that (will post the new link when I have it). Will be interesting to see what performs better. When designing these things, I'm so inexperienced that it's very easy to get so "deep" into it from staring at the screen for countless hours that everything looks great and horrible at the same time

So, I just need to figure out HOW/WHERE to test it (which traffic source), and with what budget. Suggestions at all?

First, get rid of the signal "BEEP" for the live agent thing.

I was loading your site, with my headset on, and that thing nearly busted my ear drums. Completely lost me from wanting to look at any more of your page and irritated me on top of it. Other than that, looks pretty good so far.

Dump all the widgets, social media, "interesting" content below. A squeeze page is a the first part of a funnel, you want serious people only, not tire-kickers. Maybe have small link for your blog at the bottom, however I wouldn't even do that.

See, I keep going back and forth on this one. Others have told me the same as you mention. Myself, I feel like I see right through the "salesy" landing pages that don't offer any info and just throw out a boisterous claim about making a billion dollars in 10 minutes.

Anyway, I guess there's only one real way to find out which generates higher conversions: testing. I'll do it, thanks!

While it's on my mind, does anyone have any useful resources on the best practices for the email chain marketing that will happen after someone signs up for the free offer? I plan on using aweber.

Pile the feedback, man! ... I know what you're saying. I can either add more testimonials there, or remove the one that is there. I was told that testimonials do help, so I asked our members for some. In this case, it is interesting that it's a college student using our services. I didn't think of the negative appeal of it.

1- Try and keep everything above the fold.
People are lazy. They don't want to scroll.
They'll X out of a page or hit the back button
    before they scroll.

2- The top third is the most valuable real
estate on the whole page, and you're
wasting it on a butt-ugly headline and ego
banner. This is akin to flushing money down
    the toilet.

3- Your FB like button is obviously fake.
That's just shady. Wake up dude, there's
no need to trick or mislead people.

4- Your headline is awful. And it has no
flow whatsoever. "In 10 Minutes, Learn..."
Really? That's just poor. Poor poor poor.
Spend some time reading a good book
on copywriting. Break down your headline
into its component parts, and think about
how you can rearrange them. The headline
is the most valuable thing on your page,
screw that up and you're wasting your
    time with everything else.

5- The fake FB button makes the testimonial
fake too, even if it isn't. Also, are you
targeting college students with this? If not,
you don't want a testimonial from one. People
assume college kids are smarter than them, and
so may think this is something that requires a
degree or some kind of whizkid. That will hurt
    your conversions.

That's all I have time for now.

    Good luck with it.

Forget what we tell you about whether it's good or bad. Get your visitors to tell you.

As in, always be split-testing. A/B, multivariate....doesn't matter. Just test.

Come up with a theory (X will increase when I change Y)
    Test it.
    Analyze
    Do it again

Today is the magic day of launching ... Starting with $1k marketing budget. We'll see how it goes. Maybe you guys have input on what data I should be collecting, but here's my starting list which should give me a good idea of success/failure?

      - Visitors to Landing Page
      - Signup Successful Page
      - Members Area Page

Sound like a decent enough start? I know that I can pay up to $5 per "Members Area" visitor, so that's what I'm after here!

      UPDATE:
I've only used facebook for traffic thus far. Results have been better than I Thought they would be, but far from optimized, I'm sure.

      Spent $1,000

      Signups: 42
      Verified: 37

That's enough to be barely profitable on the campaign. What next?!

      1. I'd like to find other places to get traffic. I"ve heard/read that facebook traffic is awful for conversions, so I'm optimistic since I've made some bucks there.

      2. Optimizing the landing page ... I need to do this and will, but don't want to just yet until I get a larger sample size.

      Thoughts?!

In another 5 days I'll have another update (waiting til then to draw conclusions and update accordingly). I decided to do so twice/month. I guess now is a good time to ask ... is that often enough to optimize? Too often?

Things are good, and improving. If I can only find more traffic sources now!
