which is better?

Hi guys I was wondering which is better?

1) An old domain (10 - 12 years old) with no site but an alexa rank of 6 million and some traffic for $5000-$6000

2) a cheaper domain ( 3-5 years old) with no website/ no traffic/no history for about $300 - $500 and then spend $5000 on SEO

both are in the weight loss market.

  • I would recommend the first option. An old domain is one of the biggest factors in getting the site ranked. Google trusts old domain. Old is gold

    • But both options are old domains, I can get a 10 year old domain with no history for $500 but I was wondering if the domain having history, an alexa rank of 6,000,000 and some traffic is worth the extra money?

  • I wouldn't spend that kind of money on either. Have you tried to find a good exact match domain that's available? And what SEO are buying for $5k? What primary keyword are you interested in targeting?

    • I haven't purchased the domain yet but when I do am looking to get page 1 ranking in the weight loss sector for a decent keyword but assume it will cost alot of money to SEO?

  • It is really hard to tell without you sharing the names. (Understandable)

    Because I put a lot of weight into the names of the domains from a branding aspect.

    If you are cracking 5k for me .... Branding > SEO

    • 6 million on Alexa? That is bad bad bad. Show me one under 500k, and not one inflated by alexa users.
  • I guess you should go for a new domain which has some value if it don't have then try doing SEO techniques to get ranked and provide good content.Having an old domain with an Alexa of 6 million is too much.
  • If you are pushing us to answer that question, I will choose number two plus do some on-page optimization let the site sit for a while, then do off page.

  • The domains which you mentioned here are not worth of money which you are spending on.You should choose other and work on SEO techniques.

    • I think, don't waste your money on these two domains. Search for other one domains, you will surely get cheaper and best domain that such a worthful.

  • with option 1 you only have a good domain, period . but with the second option you have a site with excellent SEO ( $5K is a LOT of money for SEO ) that probably gets you to first page of google very fast
  • Go for the old domain. Trust between the domain and search engine will definitely give your blog an extra edge over others.
  • Better you can search more domains. You can get cheapest domains in flippa, dropday etc.
