Right now with the way Google is any automated link building is risky.

I used to do a lot of linkbuilding with article networks, xrumer, senuke etc...

I have cancelled all my memberships now and I am using that money on building extra content for my sites and building links for the purposes of traffic.

There are lots of ways to get traffic without organic search results. Concentrate on them and buildcontent and you will get some seo rankings anyway.

When the dust settles I will start more aggressive seo again once I know what is safe.

I would recommend to do manual wok as much as possible and do the rest of the work through software. Google can sense anything, it finds fishy. So, its better to play on the safer side. It might take time to do tings manually but eventually you would be in good books of Google .

It's interesting how people think. We believe that if we do some work manually, that would give us better results. In some cases, that is true - but because we did it better and not because we did it manually! I half suspect that your post was created largely to create visibility for your own SEO service but I can certainly give you my take on it as I am also in the SEO industry and can look at it from the other side than the manual work that you do.

Personally I firmly believe that you need manual Seo as well as software or tech-based Seo. The simple fact of the matter is that manually you will never create enough of the lower quality links that really most top websites are expected to acquire alongside the obvious high PR links which are essential for ranking.

The essence of backlinking since the various penguin updates has been variety and lots of it. This should not just mean in the anchor text which you use which should be really varied with a lower percentage of money keywords or you can expect a slap BUT it also means in the type of website that you have backlinking towards your own.
