How earth shaking will Googles next update be?

Just wanted to get fellow warriors opinions on what Google's next update will be like. I really appreciate how Google is forcing you to really build a brand with your website and focus on reaching out to others in your market to get credibility, because this is something that those who really view their site as something of high quality would be looking to do anyway.

All of these other link building methods are mostly used by those who are simply trying to "rank to the bank" as opposed to building a lasting brand and/or business.

Not to say that there is anything wrong with building and ranking sites simply for profit but if you are going to do that then you better be all about quality since you'll always be one article blast, or crappy fiverr link building gig away from getting your whole site knocked off the top.

No one knows what Googles next major update will entail until it actually comes around.

Personally I think it is great the direction that Google is going (although it makes my job hard as an SEO provider) but it really forces everyone to create quality sites that provide real benefit to the visitors.

Gone are the days that thin affiliate mini-sites with no credibility are owning page one for certain keywords. I find that when affiliate offers and advertising is just an afterthough of a website it will do a lot better and therefore make more sales and improve visitor satisfaction and bounce rate.

One thing is almost certain, link building is still going to be the main driving factor for high rankings.

That is the million dollar question. If that ever gets out ahead of time Google would need to seriously find the traitor in its top secret algorithm laboratory. :p

I agree that link building will still be critical but perhaps the NEW methods of moving up the serps will be more about finding relevant sites to link with, guest post on, etc and not so much just throwing a bunch of stuff against the wall (i.e. forum posting, article marketing, link wheels, etc.) and seeing what sticks anymore.

    One of the biggest questions....

I also like the direction that google is going but it is making my work a lot harder and I have had to start working a little bit smarter to maintain my income...

Just try and do things that are within line of producing a good quality site and dont worry too much about it ;-)

There have been a few threads on this regarding Google's posts concerning the upcoming update. If I recall it was stated to be the biggest update yet. I am not to concerned about it since every update so far has increased my rank and not decreased...

Google said it will be a major update and will crush black hatters. We'll see.

Whatever or whenever the next Big G update will take place,
it will not only penalize spammer and black hatters but also
effects innocent affiliate marketers and newbies. But one
thing is sure that these updates are helping beginners to
even opt for high competition keywords because the most
competitive websites are dancing in SERPs. Another best
thing is that the crap sites are eliminated and surely now
      Content is King...

Well the earlier penguin attacks really went after sites with higher levels of "money" anchor text. I think we'll start seeing them track the types of links you have and the percentages. So if you have mainly blog comment and forum profile links they'll know you're a spamming away.

    Just me guess anyway.

Whatever the update will do, it will do. Focus on building a raving base of fans that will come to your sites for information regardless of search engine algorithms. That's the only way to survive. Relying solely on search engine traffic without building a repeat visitor base is just asking for trouble.

Multiple streams of traffic is what you need but a fan base is the way forward :-)

We cant go and fall over google all of the time, build good quality sites that are helping the user find what they want and the money will follow :-) I hope!!
