Exact Match Domain

I am wondering what qualifies as an exact match domain name. If there are hyphens between words, is it still an exact match domain?

exactmatchdomain.com
exactmatch-domain.com
exact-match-domain.com

Are all of these considered EMDs?

Thanks.

  • From my understanding its the first one.

I do well with domains like theexactmatchdomain.com or exactmatchdomainforU.com. That is if exactmatchdomain.com is already taken.

I dont fool with the hyphenated stuff.

Some make disagree but this is just from my experience.
  • No.

exactmatchdomain.com - only this choice is EMD

    exact=exact

    (only my opinion)
  • Yes they are all EMD's as the main keyword is inside the domain, the difference is that they have the dashes breaking the keywords up. Some people use extra letters at the end of domains, this is in order to keep the EMD value in them.
  • Hi,

I agree with two ones above. EMD is about full keywords domain name (without any signals).
I suggest you to find long tail keywords for EMD because many short tail keywords have been used for.

    • Thanks for the replies everyone. I wish I posted this question a few weeks earlier. I went and bought a bunch of hyphenated not-exact match domains already. I may go back and find some EMDs with extra letters at the end.

  • Having dashes is not a big deal. People don't consider it a true EMD I guess that is fine. But it's okay to put dashes where they make sense. For example:

    this-is-a-blog.com = Okay
    this--is-a-blog.com = NoNo
    thisisa-blog.com = NoNo

    Hope this helps.

    • Anyone that considers domains with dashes, that consist of the keywords being used, as non EMD's clearly don't know much about SEO. If the domain has the keyword being optimized in the domain, even with dashes it's still an EMD.
  • I would more recommend exact phrase domain ...
  • First one ( exactmatchdomain.com ) is the perfect and best considered EMDs.

    • When you use hyphen (-) Google will consider as separate keyword. in this Google will consider Exact, Match, Domain as separate keywords. So exactmatchdomain is better to choose

  • Whatever way somebody may type in a search is they way the domain would need to be as exact.
  • Those are all considered exact match domains.

However, don't worry about getting EMD's, because they really aren't that important.
  • Is Google penalized , if we targeted exact match domain with our basic keyword???
