Search engines are constantly tweaking their ranking algorithms and when that happens some pages lose their top ranking positions. One such event was the infamous Florida Update. Many pages were practically kicked-out of the top 1000 pages for competitive keywords.
With recent updates, webmasters have been thinking that Google does not use PageRank because low PR pages can get very good rankings. Before that everyone was saying that PageRank was THE factor for top positions. Now, everyone is saying that keyword rich anchor text links from many different sites is the key for the top ranks.
All these recent events seem to indicate that search engine algorithms are totally unpredictable, right? Wrong!
All search engines are going in the very same direction. The scientific literature related to information retrieval and recent search engine patents reveal the not-so-distant future of search engine ranking algorithms.

Good point there, perhaps a link could satisfy others curiosities?

Clear my mind here, I'm confuse, first you say that the Florida Update wreck a whole lot of SERPs (meaning that is unpredictable by many people) and then you say

All these recent events seem to indicate that search engine algorithms are totally unpredictable, right? Wrong!
Isn't that against your own words?

I do believe each search engine has it's own tweaks on the general search algorithm - that is if they use the similar algorithm.

People think that SEO is some magical thing and it really isn't complicated. You need a good domain name, work to build backlinks to your website, and provide solid content on a consistent basis. It is also not wise just to put all of your eggs in one basket so to speak and focus all of your attention on high search engine rankings. Those can flucuate all the time. The best thing you can do is work to focus on building exposure for your business. Do article marketing, press release marketing, social bookmarking, directory submissions, video marketing, podcast marketing, forum marketing, etc. The more places you are found the more opportunities someone has to find your website and make an order. The good news is that if you focus on overall traffic instead of just on SEO you will rank high because those links build up your website's ranking. SEO just takes focused effort to achieve the end result.

To be honest guys, I've actually found that backlinks are not the most important factor when it comes to SEO and organic traffic. I spent 2 solid months working on the SEO strategy for my new WorkoutBOX site and have already achieved nearly 20,000 monthly uniques with less than 150 backlinks, 95% of my traffic is organic and not referrals.

The key thing most webmasters over look, or dont even know about is a concept called Silo'ing. If you do that hand in hand with dedicated keyword research you can outrank other sites in your niche with 10 - 20 times fewer backlinks. This is exactly what I've done with WorkoutBOX, so you are really serious about high rankings I'd strongly recommend reading up on Silo'ing.

Id share some links with you but i havent got enough posts yet lol

Why worry about what Search Engines might be doing tweaking their ranking algorithms. when you look at the Google Webmaster guidlines. you results rely on good content which is updated on a regular basis, meet the spiders needs and you will be rewarded,

Do not worry too much amount keyword density just make sure your contents read well

There are several factors affecting listings.Just evaluate the new site, it usually ranked higher on the first week when indexed. Quality contents with lots of normal linking can get your site to become an authority site. The main focus here is the quality of results with possible quality contents.

Search engines are constantly tweaking their algorithms, but it's no mystery what they are targeting. It's always changing to find the most relevant and useful content.

So, If you want to do SEO that last a long time, forget about the latest trick to manipulate the search engines. Instead focus on what the search engines want. If you align your goals with that of the search engines, you will always be headed in the same direction.

If your site has what people are searching for and you've presented it in the proper way, every time the search engines make a tweak it will be toward finding your content and away from the latest manipulation tactics.

Be what searchers want and the search engines will seek you out.

Your URL's PR is one of over 200 ranking factors considered by Google's ranking algorithm when determining how your URL ranks for a particular keyword phrase.

Why would anyone think that the PR of that URL really matters much? It is a VERY minor factor in the overall ranking algorithm.

Google is attempting to show quality results that are relevant to the search phrase. PR is a function or measure of the inbound links. It has nothing to do with relevance so of course it's going to be a minor factor in a URL's overall ranking for a given keyword phrase.
