Hi everyone,

I see that many people use Market Samurai for researching keyword. I understood that this is a one of best tool. I want to know another keyword research tool that you used.

Are Google Keyword External Tool and Wordtracker dead?

Thank you

Imam Hariyanto

I like Secockpit. It is a monthly service you need to pay for though.

It depends on what I'm building. I use a combination of Google Keyword Tool, Google Insights, Market Samurai, Google (just searching), Amazon searching, etc.

    100% free:

Google Keyword Tool + Traffic Travis + Excel / Calc to sort the data. It's really hard to go back to anything else once you've gotten the hang of things. You can do some pretty neat things.

Market Samurai is okay as a free option, but honestly if you're looking to be as efficient as possible (and save hours of time a day), you're better off pairing it up with a bulk keyword research tool; we use Ultimate Niche Finder, for a few reasons.

When using Market Samurai, essentially what you are doing is going through each keyword, one by one, and going through huge lists of unfiltered/unsorted keywords of which surely many of them are going to be tough competition. Market Samurai does have a feature that automatically determines the competition of keywords in bulk, however it is extremely sluggish, but more importantly it bases these competition metrics on factors that DO NOT matter when it comes down to competition analysis. For example, Market Samurai bases competiton scores based on how many xxx,xxx search results come up in Google search results; however, this tells you nothing about the true seo competition, the top 10 results.

Ultimate Niche Finder's competitor analysis is pretty much the best there is for a desktop software, on top of that with a discount link, UNS is just absolutely dirt cheap compared to these monthly bulk keyword web based programs. The best part about UNF is that the competition metrics it goes by are of the top 3 websites ranking for that keyword, and it factors important things such as total backlinks to the page, PR, Domain Authority, On-page SEO factors, etc. We compared UNF in a post here, and we use it in conjuction with Traffic Travis (you can even use TT free version if you're using MS trial).

You can use the free alternative, but honestly once you start stepping up your IM arsenal, your going to find that saving time becomes the most important priority.

Market Samurai is good, but I've also heard Long Tail Pro is highly recommended if you create niche sites.

For a free option, you can't really beat Google Adwords Keyword Tool (for collecting keywords) and Traffic Travis (for competition analysis).

Traffic Travis has a free version which is pretty similar to the paid version.

All those tools are okay just to get a broad view of what kind of competition you are dealing with, but you will need something that really analyzes your competitors backlinks. This is important. I use ahrefs.com and SEOSpyglass. Both have free and paid versions. SEOSpyglass works great, even with the free version, but if you are analyzing a competitor with thousands of links, it takes a long time to run a report

Google Keyword Tool and paid tools: KeywordBlaze,Stealth Keyword Analyzer and Niche Finder.

When I have a complicated SEO project I gather data from all of this tools and analyze parameters ,but by default Google Keyword tool is still my favourite !

I found that when looking for long tailed keywords Bing ads has a cool Excel plugin that you can download that will give you a ton of options.

i guess we're on the same boat here, buddy. My number one option is still Google's keyword tool and then I use Stealth for keyword analysis.

SeCockpit worked well for me, but I went back to Google Adwords along with traffic Travis. I also do some search analyzation to make sure there's ads and traffic to the ranking sites.

This is pretty much what I do. Since, again, the combination works just fine and it's totally free. And if you can get the hang of Excel / Calc you can do some really nifty keyword research.

Hey Imam, I'm a huge fan of Keyword Blaze Pro.
I've also written a Squidoo Lens featuring why I think it is the best keyword research tool.
I do like Market Samurai too but I find it quite a bit slower than Keyword Blaze.
