Traffic Travis does the same thing as Market Samurai, but neither one tells you much of anything useful about the competition.

I use Market Samurai and Micro Niche Finder together. I then take promising keywords and put them in the search engine and take a good look at the sites that are on the front page. If their on-page SEO is spot on and they have lots of content, especially fresh content and good links, then I move on unless I have an aged site and the keyword is worth the trouble. Some tell-tale signs that the keyword is fairly easy to rank for is the absence of .edu and .gov sites combined with one or more thin EMD sites OR article directory articles.

Sorry guys, but I think Market Samurai and Niche Finder are a joke. They require proxies and analyze 50 keywords per minute. At least that was my experience when I tried.

I've been using SEOlytics and Ahrefs to analyze my website's competition. You may want to try them too. They both have free versions.

Depending on what your budget is you can upgrade to something better but comes with a price and Seo Companies are willing to pay because the clients pay it, and IM who can afford may use it when ever they need to use it to discover more words.
