Can you submit the one high quality article to numerous article directories or does each one have to be unique and original?

No, we don't submit in a different different sites it's look like spamming.

If we submit unique article in different different article directories that will be more beneficial and also helpful to you,

I prefer to submit unique articles. I spin the article to make unique different articles from one article and submit it into different directories. This is my 1 year experience and none of my articles have been rejected by the directories' staff yet.
But adding the same article into different directories has the risk of removal by directories' officials.
