Where should we put keyword on meta title. First, Middle or last and how can it's position effect search engine ranking. Nevertheless i have made meta title and description for debt consolidation loans. Can anyone suggest me about it. Thanks in Advance.

If I had to choose I would say meta title was more important because if there is no meta description search engines like google would use the content of the page as a description. However both are very important so treat them equally important. I just do not use keywords anymore, no need for them and if you use them all your doing is showing your competition what keywords your trying to rank for.

One thing I dont think people have put much importance around here when dealing with meta data and google ads, the domain name plays a big part in what ads show up on your pages.

The Title is probaby the most important part of your on-page SEO. As for the meta description it's always worth having this but in all honesty Google will only use it if it cannot find anything relevant within the context of your page. So if your meta decription is being displayed in the Google serps then you need to add more relevant content to your page.

Hi, to my understanding the meta title is a required element in order for the page to validate correctly whereas meta description is optional. My own feeling is that you should use title, description and keywords (although it is said Google place no weight to keywords others apparently look at this in order to detect possible keyword spam) with the proviso that they are used correctly and not for keyword stuffing. My personal definition of this? If a keyword does not appear prominently within the body content then it should not appear within a meta title, keyword or description. Jim

Validate for what? Valid HTML? Google and Bing will index a page no matter if there is meta data or not.

Are you responding to me? Because if so I was just asking what validation you were referring to? If its html validation then cleanly coded pages are a personal preference rather than industry standards. Meaning a sites success doesnt depend on if your site validates with html. I have seen plenty of sites that do not validate with html and they work just fine and make plenty of money.

Use your meta title and description both. They have both equal importance. Remember that this is your outlook at the search engines.

Hi Sillysoft, my opologies. Yes I was refering to HTML validation, which as you state does not seem to matter too much to the search engine placements, and yet I still consider that on page SEO is the first ideal. Page loading times are much more of a factor nowadays so perhaps the benefits of a validating web page will come more to the fore in the future. Jim

Page loading time has nothing to do with valid html, if that is what you are trying to say.

Agreed! There are so many WordPress sites that end up with Validation Errors because of the automatic insertion of <p> tags.

To further back up your statement I could make a one page site with no images and not close the <body> tag, even though it would load instantly it would still fail Validation.

You could go to w3.org website and run their html validator on both yahoo.com and google.com and they will come back with errors. Big sites, make a lot of money and load fast. There is just so many things to optimize page load like minification, sub domains, sprites, caching etc.

For On-page optimization both meta title & meta description are important..Meta title would inform the search engine about the heading/title of the page where as meta tag describes briefly what that page is all about.. if you don't add meta description search engine by default would pick up the content on yur page & display it in SERP's...
My suggestion is that you add both..

    regards,

The title tag <title>Title Goes Here</title> is important because it's the bold text in the list in the search results. Your title should be useful, descriptive and short. i.e. <title>Looking for Debt Consolidation? We Can Help!</title> Position of the keywords in the title is not as important as a call to action. Your title should make someone want to click your link.

The meta description is actually just as important because that is the text under the bold title in the search results. This should also contain useful information about your site and contain your keywords as well. i.e. <META NAME="Description" CONTENT="Debt Consolidation 24/7 has been a premiere resource for consolidation of debts for the last 10 years. Contact us to today to bring a swift end to your money problems!">

In short, they're both important and help searchers to find what they are looking for.

Just to be Mr Pedant, I should point out that meta titles are very rarely used and have no SEO value.

On the other hand, title tags are very important from an SEO perspective.

I think one should do the smart work and start placing keywords logically in Title and descriptions. Both are equally important !

Suppose my keyword is Plumbing services the i would rathe have meta tags as
Title : Plumbing Services - COmpany Name
Description. Company provides emergence plumbing solutions across New York. Call us on 123-456-789 to receive Plumbing services.
