2 of my sites are missing

The server at my site.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.


My sites are blogger custom domains, so I thought all of this stuff was handle by them.

    Im thinking the same thing...lots of posts about GoDaddy being down. Just be patient Im sure they will have it back up shortly.

    Thanks for the info guys, it was just up and running a couple hours ago, than I was checking some links in magic submitter to see if they were good and bam, site is down.

    Blogger affected by godaddy? Surely google uses its own servers or doesn't it provide nameserver service also?

        Google does use their own, but gives godaddy
        users a simple button to push. Google must
        get some kickback, or vice versa.

        Google wants a piece of goddady's pie to be using
        blogspot, godaddy might want to sell some domains
        to blogspot people. Win-win!

        Don't have to use godaddy. It's easy to change DNS
        settings without a special button.

        I can't say it enough. Google has a finger in loads of stuff,
        so makes sense to do something with godaddy.

        And now we have Toys R Us. Man, just can't shake that google.

          Not to raise an old beef but this is just such a great example. You would have been screaming and laughing at MS depending on an outside provider causing people's sites to go down but its peaches and sensible because its Google :rolleyes:

            No Mike, never said anything close. What I say all the time is this:

            Google has the brightest minds and does some pretty bright things
            that bring them boatloads of money. Never do I make a commentary
            as to whether google is "bad" or "good."

            But yes, I am quick to point out that when MS touches something,
            oh say like that little site Yahoo, it tanks.

            But then I also say how that MS is one dang good software company.
            Probably the best there is. But even that will one day be moot.

            Nor do I ever say that EVERYTHING MS does is terrible. Just their
            online endeavors have been severely lacking. That does not make
            google good, nor MS bad. Just means who has better people
            running it at the moment.

            Me pointing that out has nothing to do with anything else.

            BTW: Google does not rely on an outside vendor for hosting for
            blogspot. Perhaps you misread what I wrote. They have their
            own servers for that. They just make it easier to change
            the DNS settings on godaddy with the press of a button.
            The DNS gets changed over to google servers.

            So, it's really godaddy relying on google's servers.

            That's not why their blogs went down. Then blogs went down
            because of a hack to godaddy, taking a lot of stuff they do
            with it.

            You don't have to buy a domain via godaddy to have google
            host it. If I bought XYZ domain through bozo domains, I could
            have google host a blogspot blog with it. AND...if bozo domains
            got hacked, the settings would go with it. Nothing to do with
            google. They don't force you to have a custom domain.

            In fact, Nest, if memory serves me, and this ever happens
            again, you can just change the blogspot settings to show your
            blog as a normal subdomain blogspot blog once again. That won't
            help the domain issue, but can work in a pinch if needed.

              Paul I been here too long and read you too often - proof is in the pudding or in this case the previous posts where you are much much less than objective. besides the back pedalling doesn't work because you already stated with approval that Google probably receives a kickback which makes google at least partially culpable

              P.S. Did they change practices because they used to tell people to setup Cnames with Godaddy which IS part of hosting, I didn't notice downtime on my domains but I just point them to my own hosts nameservers not do cname modifications at godaddy.

    All of my Blogger sites are up as of this comment.

    I don't think Godaddy host anything for Blogger, I would be very surprised If they hosted anything for Blogger.

    Nest28, did you buy your domain from Godaddy & are you forwarding the Blogspot sub-domain to a paid domain on Godaddy account?

      I buy directly through blogger but it's also through Godaddy as Paulgl stated.Blogger and Godaddy have some sort of partnership.

        Ok, so it's the paid domain on Godaddy that probably made your site go down.

        I don't think anyone other than Google host the actual sites on blogger. I could be wrong but I'm thinking the only thing Godaddy is doing is handling the paid domains through the Blogspot Admin. panel.

        I just checked a random blogspot sub-domain & here is the nameserver:

        Redirects to Google.

        Terrible. Godaddy and anything to do with hosting is just a train wreck. They offer me all kinds of deals with all the domains I get through them (auctions)

    This should be the scenario when you get a custom name with blogger.

    1. Register name for site at blogger.
    2. Go Daddy does the registration behind the scenes
    3. Go Daddy points the dns at Google
    4. From then on the dns servers of the internet know to talk to Google for your blogger site.

    If number 3 is actually not happening and Godaddy does your dns, then I could see where Godaddy issues could hamper your blogger site, but I can't belive Google wouldn't require Godaddy to point he dns to them, that gives Google much greater flexibility.

      Yes, google uses their own servers. Godaddy just points to them. That's
      the part that that got messed up. But the same would be true about
      any site you use, like godaddy, and pointing your domains to blogspot,
      if that site got hacked. Godaddy just had a major break in, other
      hosts burp all the time.

      The relationship between google and godaddy, is that there is a
      very SIMPLE way to point DNS to google for blogspot. That's
      it. Nothing more, nothing less.

      1. You don't have to use godaddy.
      2. You don't have to use a custom domain for blogspot.
      3. Blogspot blogs were not down, just routing via godaddy.
