Usually (in the past) if a site has the keywords, site map, etc...it would

be in optimal position to benefit from off page SEO.

Since PANDA/PENGUIN, et al....is there a different set of rules to follow now?

Anyone have any insights?

Thanks!

Brik

These days the key to onpage SEO is to not really worrying about the little things. My best advice is you want quality content that has pictures, videos and some sense of unique insight into the subject matter. Write it yourself or higher a writer and make sure you are not keyword stuffing. Write for the subject matter not SEO. Google's onpage crawlers are pretty smart. They'll know what you want to rank for even if the keyword is only mentioned once or twice. Of course make sure your onpage anchors are keyworkd rich and properly describe the pages they link to. Also having the keyword somewhere in the title of the page doesn't hurt. All in all though its about having a quality site + quality backlinking. Thats the formula.

    Nothing has changed much really.

In terms of on page SEO, just make sure your keyword/phrase is in the title somewhere, meta desc and in the content once.

Heck sometimes I dont even put the keyword on the page at all. If I'm trying to rank for 'product name deals' I will have the title as 'Save Money On <product name> With These Great Deals'

Just make sure you use unique content and diversify your anchor text. This has been a foundation guideline for SEO for a number of years and that hasn't changed.
