Hi,

I'm wondering, allowing commenting when you start building an authority site, is it a good idea, or a bad idea??

Do anyone have good or bad experience to share, related to allowing commenting?

Depends what sort of site it is. Most sites have a comment feature though. It would be weird not to be able to leave a comment.

    • Comments are beneficial for most websites. They represent user generated content and encourage interaction. Some comments can create controversy, which will attract more visitors to your site. Moderate your comments before approve them in order to prevent spam.

But when allowing commenting, you also need to answer to the comments if it needs (like questions, critics etc.) and that may require a lot of work.

Do you think that's worth the effort?

Your idea is very good. There are also some things to remember to doing comments oh high authority websites. The site moderator also rejected some comments form high authority websites so be careful in doing comments.

No bad idea as long as you're moderate all comments and filter which need to publish

IMO, as long as it doesn't sound spammy I will approve commenting if that's my site. Moderate the comment before it can be published. Commenting is a great way to build relation with your visitors and readers.

I am really not sure if we have the same definition of "authority site". One of the key aspects of an "authority site" in my opinion (and experience) is user participation. You want your site to be taken seriously by search engines and by users, right?

Comments are a very big plus to you. Just make sure that you moderate them, and comment back. This works as long as they are on point, that is, they are related to the article. It means people are reading your articles. Engage them and encourage the comments, they will boost your site.

Natural comments good for site but Spam comments can reduce site ranking in search engine. You can use comment moderation function. Thanks

But what about using both Facebook comments script, and Wordpress comments on the same page??

Would that make the site look very ugly or...??

Since this is the SEO section, I'm going to assume you are talking about SEO. As far as SEO goes, the comments provide no benefit. If anything, they can potentially dilute your content with a lot of unrelated content.

If you are trying to build a community, comments need to be allowed.

Some says it will have great SEO benefits, while others say not.

I dont allow any comment with a link whit it,simple. I dont have time to read the comment and 95%+ are spam. So I would not waste time if you get lots of comments. Even better is to let people comment with their FB account

Blog commenting is a way to get organic traffic. Yes, most of them are spam and it require some time to filter them. But, at least you will get some unique visitors everyday.

    • I use a Facebook comment plugin for the seekBromance blog, and it seems to be an improvement over the default comment system. Most spammers don't bother to set up Facebook accounts.

As much as you think you know your area and customers, if you allow comments, some things will come in that will really help you understand them. Yes, control for spam, but for sure allow comments. Good luck, Ed.
