Page Rank Question ?

I've been reading the posts here and putting everything into action to get my website in the first few pages of the search engine results for my keywords . After a few weeks of work (getting backlinks etc) took a look to find I'm on page 2 of google and page 1 of yahoo. It's encouraging to finally see this SEO stuff really WORKS! if you put some time in. My page rank is still 0 so my question is how do I get my page rank higher as I think this will get me to page 1 of google. Thanks everyone for posting good quality info !

  • I don't believe that Page Rank will affect your position in Google rankings. For any search you will find many Page Rank 0 sites at the top of the listings. Also, I believe Google only updates Page Rank quarterly, so no matter how much work you do it may not show up for a while.
  • I agree, page rank does not have much to do with rank these days. It use to until so many took advantage of it.

    You probably just need more back links.

    • PR does factor in to how google ranks your site because it is a result of having higher PR pages link to yours. However, Google only updates it every 3 months or so (in the toolbar, not necessarily in their own algorithms). I wouldn't worry about PR because it will come naturally if you are getting backlinks. I've got 2 sites with PR1 that dominate a few keywords (#1 position), so you don't have to have high PR to be #1.
  • I've got a terrible 1 page website that comes upon the 1st page of google, and another terrible one that comes up on page 1-2. no page rank on either. I guess it's up to what competition you're against to an extent, but yes, As Ron stated I believe that getting quality backlinks is the way to go, if PR is important to you

    • Your PR has nothing to do with how you rank in SERPS.

      The PR of sites linking to you has everything to do with your PR.

      PR AND how they link to you is what counts for ranking in SERPS. (Anchors are the key)

      I have PR0 pages (remember PR is page dependent not site dependent) out ranking PR6 pages.

      That's the power of anchor links.

  • Page rank has no bearing on your position in google IMHO. In fact, I have a network of sites, and my PR 0 sites regularly outrank my PR 6 sites for certain keywords.

    I suggest you keep doing what you are doing and you'll eventually see yourself on top looking down

    • I use SEO for firefox instead of the google toolbar. Works like a charm.
    • Don't bother - download a decent homepage like Opera and forget all about toolbar pagerank.
