Hello, you all.

A website I've created has gotten almost 20,000 page views in this first month (something I'm very proud of). The problem is that my RPM almost never passes $2.00. As I write this, it's at $1.50, and my average CPC is anywhere from $.20 to $.30.

It's quite frustrating to know that I could be getting much more than what I'm getting now. I work on my site 1-3 hours a day and make sure the content quality is top notch.

I also plan to create a blog that is relevant to my site's niche. Will this help or hurt in terms of CPC/RPM?

I would just like some tips, please. Thanks.

Here's some info about the site:

The content consists of streaming video and audio files to watch and download, with descriptions of said files. There is one leader-board ad (728x90) on every page but the homepage.

Most users land on a video page. There are maybe around 50-70 downloads a day, mainly video downloads.

Thank you.

    Hi,

A big factor can be ad positioning, also, the type of ads displayed. The only way to find out is by testing.

Go with text ads over image ads, also try to do a call to action above the ads that doesn't say click this ad. Something like there are many places to find xyz online. Then your adblock. Maybe sure to have good spacing to avoid TOS issues.

      I wouldn't suggest doing this.

First, the earnings from text vs image vs rich media ads will vary depending on your niche/keywords/current adwords bidding for those keywords. There is no way to predict one type will perform better than another.

Second, a statement like "There are many plaes to find xyz online" above your adblocks could easily be seen as misleading during a manual review and that goes against TOS.

If you want to improve your RPM the best you can do is:
      - Try some new layouts
      - Try adding additional ad/link units
      - Try some new colors
      - Reduce options for users
      - Start creating content based on keywords with higher consumer intent
      - Target keywords in your niche with a higher CPC.
      - Create custom channels to entice more advertisers to bid on your site

Sorry if Im being too intrusive, but is it 100 % legal content, meaning no copyright infringement? Just curious, you're running Adsense and they're usually coming down hard on content like this.

Find the best ads positioning...do it once a week then observe the results.
