Hi, working on my site which is fairly new..Been reading a lot and don't want to make the mistake of unnatural backlinks. My keyword is not a major one, but more then enough traffic for my local service if I rank well....My question is, if I use a service and submit to 300 PR4 and above directories, is it seen as unnatural or is it natural backlinks because it's a directory and category related....Same would apply to articles, if I submit lets say 2 articles a month to 50 high PR sites, are those backlinks seen natural?...I know that the other services like buying 3000 backlinks or buying 3000 blog post, or 3000 social bookmarks might hurt site rank, but wondering about the directories and articles......Thanks in Advance...

I wouldn't worry too much about it just make sure you diversify your anchor text. Especially if the directories are not auto approve then your for sure good to go.

If you have to ask whether or not a type of link is natural then the answer is almost always no.

But those type of links may boost your site for a while until a Penguin or other algo update takes the value of those links away from you, or worse.

If you build the links yourself manually, it's natural.

If software automates the process, it's unnatural.

      ^^^This is completely wrong.

Links you build yourself are precisely what search engines don't want - you're voting for yourself in the PageRank algorithm.

Voting for yourself is not natural in any sense.

Natural links are ones that other people place because they like your content - ones where someone else has voted for your content.

The only natural backlinks are from linkbait and
        internal.

All others, are unnatural. Now, how does one tell
all the links apart? Especially google?

        Ah. There's the rub.

I've told people here many times what signals google uses,
but still idiotic link building abounds.
