How important is it that my Facebook page has likes?

I searched for information on this topic but I can't find an answer.

A few weeks ago I created a review website and I have set up a number of Web 2.0 sites to point links at it. One of these are a Facebook fan page where I typically publish all of my new posts, however the page only has 1 like, me.

I mainly created this page for the additional backlinks. Will I get more juice if the page has fans? Does it matter if I just buy fans without worrying about the quality?

Any relevant input is appreciated.

Likes in your facebook fan page really matters, those who liked you page will see the updates you post on the page. the more like it gets the more possible visitors for your website.

Some of the reasons why you need facebook Likes are:

    1. Every new update you make will be seen by your subscribers.

    2. It's vital for SEO as any link you post will be quickly indexed and Google loves social signal and give attention to sites with social interaction.

    3. You will save money on ads or do i say you will get free traffic and also retain traffic. This simply means if you are buying traffic it won't just go away after you stop buying the traffic, you will have loyal subscriber of your own to promote your product any time from the past traffic you have paid for.

    4. It build reputation and trust which is essential for online business to survive.

I find using Facebook Like Exchange systems work well. Use them till you get 1K+ likes and users begin liking your posts (so they go 'viral'). Until your users begin interacting with your posts, you won't grow naturally. So, that's where like exchanges help.

The more likes you have the more people you reach when you update. Right now you are only reaching yourself.

I think you people need a big does of reality.

Whoever says facebook likes are important,
are just not living in real time.

Go to fiverr, get yourself a zillion likes
for 5 bucks. Then tell us how important
      they are.

I dunno people. Judging by the responses,
it's no wonder there are so many fail threads
      here.

I aint "reaching myself," and I don't care about
      facebook likes.

Now tweets and retweets, you may have something.

But none of this is important.

Much, much more is very important.

You can spend $50 on Fiverr and probably get thousands of likes. That might make you feel good to look at the number, but it has no effect on SEO.

If you have a cool site, and want real likes, don't pay one of the hundreds of services out there claiming to give you 500 "real likes" in a day.

It's better to spend $50 in Facebook advertising and attracting "Users most likely to like your page" to your facebook page.

If you get more likes to your fan page then you will get more visitors to your website through the facebook.Don't buy the likes through the fiverr etc.You can gain the more likes advertising on the facebook itself, or using the like button on your websites.

Thanks for the comments, though I am not overly worried about getting traffic from FB. I am promoting a product that people only need to buy every 10-20 years, and they typically don't think or care much about it till they need it so I don't expect FB fans to translate into affiliate sales. I'd rather focus on capturing people who already have a need. Perhaps I could be wrong but with the mountain of tasks in front of me to build my website, there seem to be better uses of my time. I was mainly curious about the need for FB fans if it helped my website SEO. If not, then I probably won't worry too much about it.
