What are the most important things about picking a good domain name?

I heard search engines looks at the first part of the domain... is that true? Is it okay for a domain to be long? What are the most important points to consider when registering a domain?

    it's okay for a domain name to be long, yes.. It's just should be somewhat easy to remember to make it easy on repeat visitors, but that's not even an issue with bookmarks and autocomplete address fields in browsers.

    I love the post above 2 posts up now, and it's entirely true.. But EMD's are still working quite well so I can't discredit them entirely.. Also the length of the domain really does matter, you don't want ihaveareallyreallylongdomainname.com vs. longdomains.com. For the question try to include the keyword in the domain, doesn't have to first or last, just get it in there if possible..
