Hi, question the the current SEO savvy crew.

I Recently purchased a domain relate to my niche and set it up to 301 redirect to my money site. My money site currently ranks quite well with about 170 good links to it. However I realized that the domain I purchased appears to have quite a number of spam links to it that have transferred to my main domain. This increased the link profile from 170 to 2,289 within a week or 2. I have now removed the redirect in fear that I will get a google slap for the new links, some spamy porn crap. Although I do not seem to affected by this and seem to be ranking better than ever, will this impact me in any way due to the sudden changes in links? I will be jumping from 170 links to 2,289 links then back to 170 again after masking the redirect instead. Will google dismiss this because it saw a 301 direct that brought the links over or will I get slapped for the large swing in spam link juice. I am dreading getting a thump for the mistake but not sure how it will be interpreted.

I can't say I have experience with this but let me see if I help with this..

Google will obviously know the source of your new links, the redirect. So it isn't like you went out yesterday and spammed tons of links over night and get a notice from Google regarding unnatural links.

The real question is what does Google think about buying domains and redirecting their links. In the business world you are buying up a smaller business to create a larger business. I have yet to hear of anyone who had any issues with this, especially if the 2 domains are clearly in the same niche, you are simply creating a stronger brand. I do hope your website is not a MNS though. If you are going to act like a brand, best you look like one too.

Well this would be my assumption. Like you say, it isn't as if I went out and spammed my domain but instead acquired them though proxy. My only concern is that I found quite a number of links from porn sites.

This wouldn't have bothered me a few years back but with google hammering new updates that have begun to crack down on this sort of linking, although I don't see a problem with it right now, I just may in the future.

Can anyone else give an opinion on this. And does anyone think I will be hit by taking away those links by removing the 301 from this domain?

    cheers!
