So what SEO strategies are actually working today

Before Penguin & Panda, I was very successful at achieving high rankings for web pages across many different web sites and search terms. Now I am not. So how do web masters achieve high rankings today?

I have followed Google's guidelines on some web sites with poor results. What is "quality content" anyway? What are high value links? Where I have unique content of around 1000 words and include say a video and an image that's related and then build a steady stream of "high quality" links, the result is poor rankings.

Where I have been more aggressive, i.e. high quality content but more aggressive link building the results have been poor.

My competitive research suggests quite strongly that if you have a major recognizable brand name, your site will rank highly, regardless of the quality of the content. I don't promote major brands; just small to medium sized businesses.

I guess what I am asking is, where's the good information on how to rank in Google today?

I've had success ranking new and/or existing sites by using the following methods:

    1) Removing "lower quality" backlinks if possible.

    2) Improving on-page elements and tidying things up a bit. (i.e. removing excessive internal links, creating functional 404 pages, 301'ing when applicable, etc.)

    3) Creating + developing social profiles links pointing to the site. (Social Media Networks Currently Tracked By KnowEm)

    4) Building out dedicated microsites if the budget allows.

    5) Running new direct-to-site links on my private blog network in lower quantities.

    6) Pinterest links. (Helpful for generating some traffic too!)

    7) Social bookmarks in lower quantities. Both direct to site + backing social profiles.

    8) Pinging links. (as needed)

    9) Building links to pre-existing "trophy links" to push extra relevancy and juice through.

    10) Create quality content + actively promote.

The last step (#10) the most important and should always be your primary focus. Think about how many companies out there that are doing just fine overlooking steps 1 through 9?

In the grand scheme of things, "real marketing" is often overlooked when the "shiny object" elements are the most intriguing to some marketers.

Becker, what is your contribution to this thread? You bashed someone who provided the thread with his current seo strategy, that even though is a lot of work, will of course work, he is essentially building other contextual websites and have a backlink to his own, sure they will start as pr0, but if the writing is good, it will gain value over time. 20 contextual backlinks on relevant (albeit artifcially made) are all good in googles eyes. You bash his post and he comes back with a decent response and you choose to ignore him to then call someone else a retard.

But then again, you would do that with a signature like yours. There are way too many of your type around here....

If you really feel someone is wrong, correct them with your own info, bashing just to sound like you know what you are talking about is not cool.

After penguin updates I have stopped submitting links in directories and bookmarking sites. Also I do limited article submission and focus more in blogs, forums, QAs and build networking. Twice in a month I check back links and remove the bad one. By doing all this keywords of my website are ranking at good position on Google .

Quality content is basically content which is error free, unique, grammatically correct and most important thing which can engage your viewers, adds values and which can bring more traffic to your website.
Secondly, promote your content in various social medias after penguin update SMO plays a big role in improving your website ranking.

Improving on-page elements like navigation of your website do check time to time that all links in your websites are functioning properly or not. If their are any dead links and navigation problem your ranking will surely get affected.
    Hope this will help

Just focus on quality back links and you'll be fine, you can buy them, rent them, email webmasters and offer money or trade for a link from another site of yours, or buy domains, plenty of options.

Getting them for free is kind of hard though.

I can tell you that the best technique to be using are guest post from authoritative websites and blog post that are not whored out when it comes to sharing links in every market. I believe this to be the safest way of link building. Be smart about it and make sure you switch up your anchor text and have at least 50% branded keywords.

What I like to do is submit unique articles for backlinks, social bookmarks,
press releases, etc. Let me take the time to explain. This strategy has
gotten me a ton of top rankings, and is STUPID SIMPLE.

      What is Required of You?

      * The willingness to write 2 unique articles a day.
      * About 30 to 45 minutes a day, depending on how fast you write.

Day 1. Write a Unique Article.

You can post this article on a new niche site. In which case, I recommend
having between 5 to 10 articles. You don't need a huge site to be successful.
Alternatively, Blogspot and Squidoo rank really well, so if you're low on cash,
      Blogspot and Squidoo will work.

Day 2+ Submit 2 Unique Articles a Day.

On days 2+, you're going to want to write and submit 2 unique articles a day
to article directories, web 2.0 services, and press release sites. If you can
snag a guest post on a site, feel free to do that as well.

      Schedule:

      Monday - Write money article.
Tuesday - Write 2 articles for SEO.
Wednesday - Write 2 articles for SEO.
Thursday - Write 2 articles for SEO.
Friday - Write 2 articles for SEO.

      rinse and repeat.

      Sites to Submit To.

      Squidoo (PR7)
      Ezine Articles (PR6)
      Blogspot Blog (PR9)
      Hubpages (PR6)
      Go Articles (PR6)
      Amazines (PR4)
      Wordpress (PR9)
      Live Journal (PR8)
      Tumblr (PR8)
      Weebly (PR8)
      SelfGrowth (PR6)

      Squidoo (PR7)
      Tumblr (PR8)
      Tumblr (PR8)
      Wide PR
      PR Log

      What You Get?

After just 10 days of work, you get 20, high quality, relevant backlinks to
your site. Write useful information, and you will even get targeted visitors.
Through Panda and Penguin, this is the strategy that has continuously
worked for me, and again, it's STUPID SIMPLE.

      Final Thoughts.

There is nothing special about SEO. Do this strategy for 2 weeks, and it will
work wonders, (unless you're targeting an impossible keyword.)

Feel free to do these things as well:

      * Social Bookmarking,
      * RSS submissions, and
      * Pinging

As a bonus, feel free to submit your backlink URLs to Fiverr (to backlink your
backlinks), NOT your money site. Backlinking your backlinks will help them
      get indexed.

PS: Vary your anchor text. Use words like "click here" or "check this out." Only
use your exact anchor 20% of the time. Also, link with the URL as well.

This strategy as absolutely been killing it for me, and it's STUPID SIMPLE.

Or better yet just buy homepage links on a network.. I mean if this strategy KILLS it, you should have money to spare to save yourself time right?

          Hey there,

I currently don't have the funds to outsource. Trust me, that's the very
first thing I will do when I get those funds.

Prior to using my strategy, my earnings were in a decline, and then stagnant
          over the past 6 months.

I just started using this strategy around mid August, and it's the only thing
that has worked for me since Panda and Penguin. Since then, I've seen a
$300+ a month increase in my earnings.

I realize I'm no super affiliate, but I also realize many of my friends here at
Warrior Forum are looking for a strategy that works, and a strategy that is
free. My strategy is both of those things.

I also realize the majority of people here are not super affiliates, and would
be more than happy to be making $100 - $1,000 a month. My strategy can
          make that happen.

I guess I don't understand why I'm being bashed for providing readers of WF
with helpful information. Is my strategy the best SEO strategy in the world?
Nope. Even I'll admit that. But does it work, and will it allow struggling marketers
to increase their rankings, traffic, and earnings? Sure it will, and in my eyes,
          that's all that matters.

My Earnings with Clickbank since strategy:

Well, guys, I'm outta here. It's been fun, being back in WF again. It just gets

The aim of Google as a SE is to provide surfers with the most relevant results from searches. Therefore, it is important to have this point in mind when writing articles or just web content. They have very complex algorithms that can detect duplicate content, spun content and spam. Quality content is king i.e content that is informative, fresh, relevant, unique and original.

High PR contextual dofollow links. I am getting my clients to page #1 with contextual links from my high PR blog network and blogrolls.

I strongly urge everyone to avoid any "guaranteed ranking services". Those are always a scam. Nobody can guarantee results, if they do... RUN!!!

You are starting to be pathetic. Who ever knows how to analyze properly a niche , a site and keyword competition can guarantee results based on his experience . I can virtually take on first page any keyword , like every serious SEO company which isn't involved in scamming people for 5 bucks with fake PR shitty sites.

Your feedbacks on fiverr are funny too btw , I guess now and then you find someone who's able to see the real value of your site?

      FIVERR review
mburngas created 6 days ago The site is a TOOLBAR PR9. 85 OBL. Posts stay on homepage 13 days. 21 Citation Flow from 36 Links on 23SEPT2012. That said, the link profile looks like a PR2 or PR3 site. Amazon dot com is a PR8, so to say that this is a PR9 is ridiculous...
Also you are selling on WF the same links you are selling on fiverr for 10x price? Stating also that you have 7 spots left? And you keep spamming your blogs with fiverr buyers? That's some clear and honest way to work with your customers. Well done.

If you had anything good in your hands you would keep those sites for your own , as selling links for 4$ and spamming those sites to death will reduce the power of those links by x100, but I understand it's easier to take money of ignorant customers on fiverr.

Also there's maybe 2-3 people involved in guaranteed ranking service here , I run an offline business and I work with REAL web design and SEO agencies from USA - UK - GER ,I guess that's hard for you to get to the end of month with 4bucks per order , I can understand why you keep spreading all this bullsh1t on this forum.

      Cheers

SEO is the same as it always was. Real SEO's understand quality over quantity, that's why everyone here who purchased the cheapest SEO services get penalized by Google.

Unfortunately the days of buying the cheapest SEO you can find and hoping to rank highly are over, you now need to make a commitment to your website and actually pay for quality work.

Some other tasks to add to your list.
Remember SEO is an ongoing activity that takes time.

    Here are my tips:
    1) Domain age. If you're just starting you might want to think about buying a domain that has a long history (>5years).
    2) Choose domain names with keywords
    3) Create a youtube video and get back links to that video
    4) Submit RSS feeds
    5) Get .edu and .gov link banks
    6) Create unique articles and submit to article banks. Don't forget to get back links to those article banks.
    7) Get facebook fans, twitter followers, and more importantly a google+ site. Evidence shows google places some weight on these.
    8) Get a google place listing.

Google wants people to do paid advertisement and many websites which are paying for adwords rank better than others, But this has also made small business and individuals much harder time as they do not have budget for such campaigns, Working hard on Social Networks is the only thing that can help out these days as combined they can provide even more traffic than Google if you work properly.!

Google wants people to build authority sites instead of building several few pages site..

You can see, HubPages, About.com, eHow.com etc. they are doing well.

Thanks to everyone for their contribution so far.

As I said at the start, I was achieving some seriously good SEO results before Panda and Penguin. The methods I was using then are not working today. When I read through this thread, I see many suggestions that have worked in the past for me but, as I mentioned before, are no longer working today. Having said all that, there have been some great suggestions that I will definitely try.

      Some observations:
      1. I have tested the social media approach and noticed no real improvement. I am not convinced about this yet. Maybe someone has some proof?

      2. I have achieved good rankings on some pages for secondary keywords (i.e. not the keyword that I want to rank for). This may be a result of less aggressive on-page SEO and more varied anchor text. After all, G still needs guidance about what a page is all about but it has to be less "obvious".

      3. When a sports team is performing poorly, the coach will often revert back to getting the fundamentals right and then later, to build on this. I like what ttomp13 suggests because it is a similar approach. Although this is time consuming, I may try this for a while and when I see the results will consider adding some of the other suggestions people have made.

      4. I can't go with the SEO is dead argument. I have many sites that have not been SEO'd and they are hidden in the back-alleys of the search engines.

      5. Brands are king - it seems to me that major (recognizable) brands are being given some advantage. Perhaps G is becoming the big brand SE?

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I am off to try a "stepped" approach:
Step 1 - Follow the advice of ttomp13 for a few weeks
Step 2 - Add one additional tactic - e.g. blog posting - and see what happens
Step 3 - Add another tactic - rinse and repeat.

I will report back on results.

Thanks again and I wish you all well in your SEO endeavors.
