Diversity is important in SEO, so getting links from both of these sources is ideal, though guest posting may provide more weight in terms of link juice and reputation.

+1 for guest posting. Article directories lost their power in the farmer update. Anyway, there's so much content submitted there on a regular basis that your articles are pushed down by new articles the same day you posted them. They will not get a PR, so there will not be a long of link juice flowing your way.

Depends where the guest post is being placed. On a domain with no traffic, no PR, and the page it will appear on has no PR, a guest post is just as worthless as an article in an article directory.

You can actually kill two birds with one stone..

Here is what i mean..

Write an EZA article standard on a hot/controversial/attracting topic and
syndicate it to top traffic sites like article directories, web 2.0, blogs e.t.c
and you will get link not only from the sites you submitted your article to
but you will have a high chances of having your content published on high profile
blogs, webmasters e.t.c what i consider an automatic guest post.

Rinse and repeat..

Don't forget to mix it with other link building methods and build tier 2, 3 links
as well.

You can publish your same content or have another one written and republished.

I found it more effective when i have a unique article on several sites other than mine.

Also, many sites do not accept content published on your site, there are tons of sites you can use anyway and the more unique the better.

Normally, what people do is publish it on their site first and when it's indexed they syndicate to other sites..

guest post back link is much better & more valid than articles because of the following reasons,

Guest posting works better than article submission. If you post content on a quality blog or website in your niche, the link you will get will be more valuable than one from article directories.

The only advantage of guest posting from article directory is that you surely submit your article to related niche or website. And if the blog/site where you submit your post is already authority and have audience then it may help your site to get traffic and be noticed by the follower of the said site.

I think guest posting will be powerful for link building. In the article directory many of the directory site accept you site and put your link in the no follow format. That means your links not counted by google or other search engine. In the guest posting your post also have some value if you write post with unique content. Thats why my vote is for guest posting.

If you write a guest post then it posted into a blog with high traffic, your guest post will get plenty of unique visitors, so your site will get traffic (you put the link into the guest post).

e.g: 1,000+ unique visitors per guest post.
