How to increase my rank a little more?

Hi,

If you do a google search for cigar forum, my site comes up number 5. What can I do to increase my rank? Also, we have thousands of cigar reviews in our forum, however I rank on page 2-3 for keyword "cigar reviews". Any tips for getting on page 1?

I would recommend getting some high PR backlinks but Not from high PR sites where there is hundreds of spam comments as well links from web 2.0 properties such as: Blogger, Wordpress Tumblr... with unique content then interlink them... this will give you huge ranking juice to your site and boost the ranking to move higher...

You need backlinks to do this. Your link should have keyword rich anchor text. This will move you up in the serps.

  You're kidding right? high pr backlinks? you expect to get high pr backlinks from social bookmarking sites? what are your expectations, pr-4? lol seriously if you expect to rank a keyword like cigar reviews with high pr()social bookmarking sites then good luck with that.
  
  coming back to OP, you might want to start doing guest blogging to get high pr backlinks or maybe rent some high pr backlinks from relevant sites. also tiered backlinking could help. you could get decent backlinks from web 2.0's that way.

You write some article about your business and post these article on high pr sites. I am sure you get the high google ranking and business.

I would recommend try to get good backlinks through guest blogging after that hope you will get good results because I am doing same.

Try to get links from high PR, relevant and DO FOLLOW sites. Also, optimize your site/ targeted page for the keyword "Cigar Reviews".

you dont seem to have much if any internal linking on your site, use internal links to distribute your page rank accross the site, and use internal pages to rank your homepage, for a site with 701,000 indexped pages in google, you have a great resouce for backlinks right infront of you, people tend to negelect internal linking but look at wikipedia it ranks for everything that is a good example,

Just a reminder blogger is a type of web 2.0 but anyway. Get more content links or post a guest blog and rank that page. Your main focus is to rank pages of content links you made for better positioning. Not only your site but your guest blogs as well. More work and yet so satisfying results.

the .GOV, .EDU backlinks are the best ranking for keywords.
Try the .gov and .edu site and create profile backlinks, the anchor text is your keyword.
I tried, and the ranking gets higher in 1 week (TOP 3 - page 1)

I would highly suggest you check the backlinks of submission sites, then if they have high PR backlinks or high quality backlinks, link to them. There are some sites that contain spam backlinks or low quality backlinks. I would also suggest to integrate your website with social media sites.

Thank you all for your feedback.

So far, my understanding is that I should do the following:

1. Post on Yahoo Answers relevant answers to cigar related questions, and point a link back to my site when appropriate.

2. Post articles on tumblr with links back to my site.

3. Guest blog. I've never done this before, so I'll need to research how to do it.

4. More internal links from internal articles to my cigar review forum w/ anchor text "cigar reviews".

I'm going to give the above a try and report back. Maybe we can make this a sort of a case study, so others can clearly learn what it takes to move up a site in google.

I'm going to post the same generic answer. Find high PR context backlinks. Check fiverr or odesk if you want to outsource. Also there are some WSO offers here at WF.

In addition to that look at doing social marketing and building your brand. It all helps!

You can also post your site to some high PR website directories. It will give you valuable link juice if your site gets accepted. Be sure to do it manually without using any software. Hope this will help.

  It is easy to increase the ranking of your website if you will follow only white hat SEO techniques because after penguin update the black hat techniques are being considered as spamming and a website may penalize for this. So you should use only quality content and create quality backlinks in natural way. Use unique content for all off-page activities. Do not get backlinks in bulk. Try posting to sites with high PR. You also mentioned using yahoo answers right? Yahoo answers is also an effective method, works as well. Guest blogging is also awesome. We've been doing it recently.

So if I want to get on page 1 of google for the keyword "cigar reviews", do I just post comments on other cigar review websites with a link back to my site using the anchor text "cigar reviews"? Seems most blogs I find don't allow links out.

I've been doing some work onsite and offsite, and my site is positioning all over the place in google. Once day it'll be on page 3, then hours later on page 2, then page 1, then back to page 2. Is this the "google dance"?
