I am registaring several domains with GoDaddy. I have a few options.
  • Someone told me that multiple years improves SEO. True?
  • GoDaddy has something called "Search Engine Visibility" for $1.99/month. What is this?
  • What about their other products? Can any of these boost rankings? Like SSL Certs?

    Hi,

I've never noticed any SEO bump for registering multiple years.

No idea what that Godaddy service is, but knowing Godaddy I'd guess it's worthless...

Yours were like increasing domain authority than ranking itself.

  • GoDaddy not going to put you on top 10 position for sure!! What happens to other sites working on SEO and link building?? Although domain age is considered as one of the SEO factor still, you can always rank new domains as well with the right Search Engine Optimization Plan!!

    1. SSL cert is just for web security and it cannot improve you rankings.
    2. Search Engine Visibility might help but not significantly.
    3. Buying a domain for 5 years is like paying rent upfront for 5 months instead of 1 month with a discount.

    1. The only argument from having it for longer is that it wont be 'soon to expire' sooner! - if you have faith in the site, dont let it get to 1 day before expire to renew, best to keep on top of it - in terms of SEO... nah but if you forget to renew, then yeah, you are shooting yourself in the foot
It would be nice to see a test about it, but other than showing that you plan on sticking around for the long haul 2 years is good enough if its your brand save some money and get it for 10!

    2. Agreed, search engine visibility for 1.99? probably just a free submission to search engines google, yahoo, and bing - its free and you dont need to do it every month, just set up your webmaster tools and get a sitemap on there, and ping - don't quote me, but what more could you possibly expect for 1.99 a month? tons of high PR backlinks? I doubt it

    3. SSL doesn't impact your rankings, and could hurt if you use them wrong, as it wont allow all the content on your site to display, a lot of facebook, twitter, and plus1s buttons wont work well on SSL, so if you use it its not going to be for SEO reasons, its for the Trust of your Customers, people need to see a little golden lock if they are about to buy something, that is key. If you are asking for information from people. then you want a fast way to gain their confidence in giving it to you, SSL that page only (login pages, options, payments etc). There is also such a thing as trust rank tR

ps. godaddy is great for domains, if you would like to save some cash though, use this https://www.securepaynet.net/?prog_id=475159
its a godaddy reseller site, same customer helpline, same systems, same everything, other than its not got the brand premium and undercuts godaddy too!
