I am thinking of building micro-niche (informational) sites that can get ranked quickly in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). The first step is of-course to do keyword research and get a couple of low competition keywords. Then build content based on these keywords.

Which is the best tool or method that can be used to unravel low competition keywords with significant searches on Google?

If you can afford it, I STRONGLY suggest you get yourself a copy of Long Tail Pro...
It'll make your task way easier.

I have tried MS and the Google keyword tool but they are really not giving me the results I want. I am thinking that there must be another option out there apart from those two.

What MS does is keyword research and I don't think it can unravel keyword with low competition and very high searches,

Google Keyword tool, officially known as Google AdWords tool which is good enough free tool but if you interested to invest and find much better keyword ideas along with many other detials, you can go for paid tools.

Still, if you master in AdWords tool you don't need paid ones...

I have used the AdWords tool before. An example of a paid tool?

@speedbird Market Samurai is a great tool to use if you still have it.

I personally uncheck everything except, BLP , BLD ,BLEG, , and the 4 Y's
technically you can rank for any keyword IF you know what your up againts and your compitition. So I cant tell you , you CANT rank, cause everyone has there standards on whats too hard for them vs whats easy for them, I know I would look at the BLP and if its like < 1000 it maybe high comp. but then again why would I think it is?

IF am i willing to build links at a decent rate and think its worth going after then ..maybe increase the rate over time with the link building (if you got some months on the age) for the main domain and page im trying to rank as well and so on. I know some people would avoid it @ BLP over 1000 , heck some would attack it if they had 1000 but no keyword in the domain (and we all know what the latest EMD update caused so far) . Also the BLD ill probaly look at it just to see how much the 'word was put out there' or how much is it 'on the scene' for that domain, but I wont pay much attention to that since those can be ANY type of backlinks. The more targeted ones mostly are coming to the pages itself BLP.

Before I used to pay BL services on warrior forum until I got what I wanted in serps. usually for utube vids sometimes too. but saved my money for good link building too so i dont need to pay everytime anymore. as for GAKT, Like someone said theres not much you can go on for competition in that unless your doing PPC probaly. Cause thats the only think its refering to in the tool.

Not SEO competition but PPC bidding for cpc and stuff like that. Although I here its not that accurate but everything is all on averages i guess. btw I was on my way for ranking a 3600 keyword with EMD with a hyphen 'no dashes though'. it was dancing on its way up, page 4 -5 before this EMD thing hit, now on pg 22-23. but No panicing over here on my part. Im just going to start continuing building links from where the WF BL services left off. but with my tools.

Writing 2-3 500 word articles and hand spin and submite to Article directories and web2.0s then after 2 weeks or so ill make tier 2 content and after 1-2 weeks make tier 3 and so on. Nothing changed over here. Besides I got no alert in webmaster tool and also everypage is still indexed with the site: command.

I already have good LSI stuff in there, I even used the '~' command to see other LSI stuff google likes from other sites on the fly. Anyway MS is good, I would go back to using it if you can. But thers another tool ,

I forgot what it is, its probaly almost like MS's rival , it came out on the forum few months ago. forgot what its called. but its seo competition modoule looks like MS. but it uses SEOmoz I think instead of Majestic. if someone sees this fill me in.

They had server trouble when it laucned on the forum but it cleared up because of high demand.
