EMD site still ranking, but ranking for other keywords is affected...

I am having different results with this latest Google algo update. One of my site is EMD(lets say sitemainkeyword.com, of course, this is not real site name), started in July of this year, with just 2-3 backlinks which I created to get my site indexed, which surprisingly is still ranking number #1 for the keyword "site main keyword".
Now, even more surprising thing is that yesterday I checked ranking for the keyword "site main", and I was ranking #22, the keyword "site main" gets around 35k exact match searches per month. I just checked the ranking now for the same keyword, and I rank currently #49 for this keyword.

The point of all this is that my EMD site is still ranking for the main keyword, but, ranking for other related keywords is affected. Anyone else having such results with the latest update? Is it Google dance or due to latest algo update?

Only 4-5 days earlier my EMD site break the barrier of 100 unique visits per day, but, since tomorrow traffic is affected. I am seeing around 50% traffic drop today..

    Yeah, it looks like you are getting hit by the algorithm update.

    It could be just affecting your long-tail keywords, but really, you will probably see a hit on your main keyword in the next few days. These types of penaltys tend you throw you in a ranking dance and then hit you after a few days.

    If you do anything, make sure not to stop linkbuilding, as this will alert the algorithm to the fact that you are checking your rankings and trying to play the system.

    I'm seeing the exact same thing: no drop in the ranks for the "EMD" KW, but I lost ranking on all the others. Weird.
