I'm just curious how most of you are doing your keyword research because it seems like the answer varies depending on who you talk to.

Say you are browsing the marketplace looking for products to promote as an affiliate and you see one you like. What keyword research and requirements do you look for within the marketplace that would make that product a GO for you?

Such as number of searches the exact phrase is getting, competitors in google, etc...

I dont go after keywords having less than 3k exact searches and medium competition that I can rank in 30-45 days. Use Traffic Travis to analyze your competition. From where your competitors are getting their backlinks, reverse engineer them and outrank them. Additionally I build few high quality links from related wesbites too. Press releases, guest posts, web 2.0 properties, high PR wiki links...

Additionally I make videos for them and also upload them on Youtube, funny thing is I get my videos ranked in a week on Google Page 1 and those extra sales help, sometimes makes me more than the site itself.

What I look for during keyword research is its monthly searches which should be at least more than 2k and having less competition and for that I use Google AdWords tool, it gives more specific results then any other tool.
