Anyone Ever Ranked An Amazon Shop/Product? How Hard?

Has anyone ever ranked/tried to rank an Amazon shop/product? I don't mean an affiliate style website, I mean an actual product listed on amazon.co.uk/yourshoporproduct.

I'm thinking with a site as huge as amazon, it surely must be easier to simply open an amazon shop and fling links at that instead? Would it fly up the rankings with very few quality links?

Amazons main criteria for product ranking is sales. The more sales, the higher you will rank in their results. Obviously it helps to have your keyword in the title, the bullet points and the description, but sales equals rankings!!
I know it smacks of, "well how do I get sales if I cannot rank highly" and that is why many sellers sell at a lower price to start with to get some sales under their belt. Once they have risen up the rankings a bit, they increase their prices.

Also, the sales aspect is PER PRODUCT not overall in your account. So if you sell 100 blue widgets and only 5 red widgets, only the blue one will feel the effect.

    Hope that helps

Thanks for info, but I mean google rankings. Like if I sell red wellies, could I rank an amazon product at position 1 on google for 'red wellies'? Would building links to the actual amazon product do it?

This is in order to get some sales to then help with my internal amazon ranking. Or would google somehow know amazon sales/stats and not rank the product either?
