Thanks for feedback, I saw the official stance from Google on what was web spam e.g. customized cars by custom cars is customized car choice but that's kinda obvious.

I suppose we shall continue to focus on the 2 word phrase for Google ranking

As a car dealer it is hard to find the distinction between keywords stuffing and listing all available car models and car brands we sell.

Personally I have never checked keyword density, I just generally write content the same as I would anything else where I am attempting to expressing something in written format.

Fairly easy rules.. You need to open with the keyword and close with the keyword, make sure the H1 tag is present and with the keyword. I generally will use H2 tags for long tail versions of the keyword. Once I have that I just fill in the rest to support it, 15 minutes later you have content for your website.. now find an image that works for it.

5-7% is too much. I try to keep it under 2% and using related keywords. You should also use H tags to emphasize your main keywords.

I don't really see how as an car dealer for example you can not mention the word car without exceeding 2% percentage? - especially if the sites focus is on selling cars.

Now I know their are synonyms but some are jargon or not related to your market - for example in the UK we don't use cell phones its mobile phones.

So for example on one website we are talking about x brand repairs. Its quite hard to talk about an service in 500-700 words without mentioning it a few times.

I can imagine it would be hard to talk about search engine optimisation for example without the words "search" "engine" or "optimisation" being higher then x %

SEO content writing has become much more involved and complicated than simply choosing a keyword or phrase. Keyword stuffing is also a problem in terms of relevancy. There are too many cases on the Internet where articles are written with the use of a keyword that simply does not fit within the article.

Focus your keywords in your articles and article titles but be very natural about it. Google can spot spam from mile away and you can't outsmart the system. Blacklists are very hard to get off of and is sometimes unfair so be careful.

Rule of thumb is 1-2% nowadays. Put the keyword in the beginning paragraph, last sentence, and as a header title. Put it also in the meta description and meta keyword. Don't overdue it...
