Today we're happy to announce an updated version of our Webmaster Quality Guidelines. Both our basic quality guidelines and many of our more specific articles (like those on links schemes or hidden text) have been reorganized and expanded to provide you with more information about how to create quality websites for both users and Google.

See the updated Guidelines here:

Just thought I'd share for those who haven't seen it yet.

    I noticed Automated Queries in the guidelines, is this newer or has it always been there. Automated queries - Webmaster Tools Help

    Google just gave us a list of tools we can use to hurt our competitors! They're so sweet...

    Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link
    Excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you")
    Linking to web spammers or unrelated sites with the intent to manipulate PageRank
    Building partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking
    Using automated programs or services to create links to your site
    My thoughts? Google is releasing this because it's the one thing they cannot control or police so they want to SCARE people into stopping it. If Google is really going to be policing links to this degree, then you really can use negative SEO and they just gave us a checklist in order to achieve it. But really there's no way to tell who's paid for a link and who hasn't.

      What if I exchange sexual favors for a link? Is Google going to track that?

        Depends on how much tracking you've allowed. If you use Google Voice and they hear the sex sounds, probably.

    No, but you may get a virus. It also depends how good your SEO (sex engine optimisation) is to if anyone wants to exchange.

    @kellter:
    I believe that Google stated long ago, that they disapprove of Automated Queries.

    I don't know if that particular page you shared was always there, or if they added new information to it.

    @HigherPrThanGod:
    Yeah I agree that Negative SEO is much more possible and easier to achieve now than it was before. The Penguin update expanded that loophole.
