Optimizing for specific terms?

Hey Warriors,

I'm looking to do some local optimization for my offline IM business.

SEO isn't my strong suit (yet) and thus it's not a service I offer too often.

Anyway, so I'm looking to rank for the term "Online marketing Orlando"

When searching for the exact term, using quotes, the search results are 100% crap. There is not a single company in the listings, just random garbage, most of it is unreadable.

However, when searching minus the quotes, there are quite a few companies optimized for the term and doing well, granted from a direct response point of view it sucks...

Anyway, would it be worth my time? I can probably get to page two fairly easily. Page one has good results, page two... not so much.

I'd love to hear what you think.

      The first step in SEO is keyword research. The term "online marketing orlando" has virtually NO searches per month in Google. The term "marketing orlando" has only 91 searches per month.

      Due to practically nonexistent search volume you could probably compete for and earn a page 1 listing for this term quite easily. (there are only 245 results returned for allintitle:"online marketing orlando"). But, it wouldn't be worth much since no one ever types that term into search.

      I would be wiser to look for terms that get at least a couple hundred searches per month so there is a potential pay off.

  • Traffic is not the only key thing. You want targeted traffic. If you have a site where your desired keywords make it impossible for you to get to #1, you need to do some type of end around. Be more specific. Narrow it down to one particular item. I would rather get 100 targeted visitors a month, on one specific item, than 1000 visitors who just have a general term they are looking for. I think most people start out searching for general terms, but then need to wade through a slew of sites and content to find it. Many will probably click out and try again. But experienced searchers know how to narrow it down and find your site.
