Hi all,

My blog can be found in the signature below offering quality contents in IM niche. Right now, I'm thinking of getting an expert to help me with the SEO to drive more traffic. I've been engaging services like Technorati and OnTopList to promote my website. My million dollar question is:

Will SEO help to drive more traffic to my website?

Any advice, be it positive or negative is much appreciated!

P.S. I would be glad to receive feedback regarding my blog too.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, SEO will drive more traffic to your site. Placing links to your site on relevant sites just like you did in your sig will drive more traffic.

Most important, telling people to click the links you're posting will drive more traffic to your website too.

You're on the right track my friend. Now it's time to scale and replicate this method.

Thank you for advising. If you don't mind me asking,

      1. How often do you engage SEO service?
      2. Do you always hire the same person to do it for you or are you using any kind of software like SEOMoz?
      3. How do you tell people to click on the links?

      Thanks again.

Yes SEO will do just that.

Here is what I would do.

      Prep your site:

      1. SEO Plugins - Have a look, there are a few out there like Yoast, SEOpressor, etc
      2. Syndication Plugins to get the word out and build backlinks - A few are Network Publisher, bookmarklovers, syndication rockstar (new), Rss sydication plugins, etc
      Site Overview

      1. Get rid of the language selector
      2. Implement an opt in offer in your subscription offer.
      3. Implement both page and category in the horizontal menu
      4. Take categories out of sidebar
      5. Consider taking out recent posts.
      6. Ad banners see below.
      Ad Banners

Sometime ago Google implemented a page layout algorithm. If you run heavy ads above the fold, bury content under ads it may result in a penalty. As IMers we want our ads views, but also provide quality content because that is why the visitor is there, to read content. So there needs to be a balance. What I do is use Adsense ads on top of the fold (immune to this update it seems) , then blend down into with affiliate banners.

Viewing your site, it is best for your sidebar to run 300 x 250 ads instead of a jumble of 125 x125s. Readability incites clicks. However to many ads can be distracting. So lets say you are promoting a product with a review with an affiliate link. You want the reader to be focused on the content and not get distracted. Here you can use a plugin to hide the widgets on a particular page, or you may choose a page template in your theme that does not have widgets. You need balance here between ads and content.

      Now for SEO

First I would focus on longtail keywords. Longtails can be seen as what real people type in the search engines to get a more definitive results, plus much of them have low competition. Here is an example of a longtail keyword "how to build an email list","how to set up an email list".

Keep in mind this is what 90% of people do when searching for a product, service or information.

Now you want to take that frame of mind and put it towards your blog title and description. Why? because your site like many millions out there do not have a house hold name domain like walmart. Now you can have a logo with your domain name to make it look right, but you definitely want the search engines to see those longtail keywords in your site title and description.

Going further, use longtails as titles for your posts which also provides good topics to write about.

So lets say you are promoting a list building strategy from either jvzoo or clickbank.

The product maybe highly competitive on the search engines with other affiliates, so you use a longtail keyword related to it. "Best list building strategies"

Here is a great tool - I'm not affiliated with it, but it is awesome and has a free trial.
Keyword Researcher: A Long Tail Keywords Generator Tool

Now for the page itself as for SEO. I use SEOpressor, which I find well suitable, but there are free SEO plugins out there as well.

What seo pressor does is provides a checklist while you draft up your post.
It covers Title, Description, Heading Tags, alt tags, links, keyword density and more which helps guide you to optimize your SEO.

Heading Tags - Often many people wonder how to use their heading tags with their keywords so it doesn't look so chaotic or spammy.

The way I do it is I use H1s for Titles, H2, and H3s I either use as 1 for a sub heading or use them as sentence quotes.

So that's about it. The flow of your site is pretty good.

Thank you 1,000,000x for those informative comments. Appreciate it a lot!!! I've heard from other warriors as well that SEOpressor is one of the best SEO plugins available on WordPress. Will it be very difficult to use?

Correct me if I'm wrong, I need to get myself a long tail keyword, then write some blog posts that uses those keywords in the title and then focus on SEO? What if I have more than 1 long tail keyword? If I do SEO on all the long tail keywords will it be more effective or disastrous?

Too many questions to be asked by a noob like me. Hope you do not get irritated.

Thanks and I wish you much success!

If you are good at content writing, your website will just get notice by Google and it will rank and gain a lot of customers. I am sure of that because my fellow SEO who did that have now lots of customers. I assume you know him - here is his website: Kaiserthesage – Philippines’ Premier Online Marketing Blog

Yes SEO is surely going to drive traffic to your blog. But the kind of traffic will depend on where the links of your website are placed. If you have backlinks from a site that is non-relevant to your niche, the readers coming to your site are not likely to be interested in what you've to offer. It's better to get the links on relevant websites as a result.
